Beautiful array of textures.
3 years agoGreat photos! I can’t wait to get back to France.
3 years agoReally enjoying your trip - it's rekindling some fond memories of my trip on the Via Rhona. Bridges! And Viviers - I'd forgotten how wonderful that old section high on the hill was. Thanks
3 years agoHi,
Now I know I must go back to that part of France to see some of the things I’ve missed! La vie est au plus belle dans un beau village!
Cheers,
Keith
Miramande looks like a beautiful place and your photos are great!
3 years agoLooks like great cycling. I’m looking forward to bicycling in France next year!
3 years agoHi,
Valence is great for dining. I think that the presence of a Michelin three-star (Maison Pic) brings up the level of all the local restaurants. You can find a few Roman vestiges in some of the walls around the city if you look hard enough, but it’s nothing like Vienne. It’s also near Valence that the Mistral can first be felt on the way south. At least you’re headed in the right direction.
Cheers,
Keith
Hi,
If my memory serves, it wasn’t that easy on a fully loaded single, either.
Cheers,
Keith
Hi Robin and Rich,
You are riding on one of my favorite routes in France! And it’s making me long for the road. The last time I was in Vienne I spent most of a day in the museum across the river, but you have shown me many sights I missed, so I guess it’s time to go back. I agree with your enthusiasm for the ViaRhona, and wish you a safe journey.
Cheers,
Keith
Looks like a great tour! I’m looking forward to cycling on the Rhône river again!
3 years agoLocal knowledge is such a great thing! We rode the length of the Rhone starting in Andermatt in October 2018. We were lucky with the temperatures (perfect for cycling), the rain (lack of), crowds (lack of) and it was mostly downhill. However that mistral thing never factored in our thinking, but we sure learned! Lovely trip, one of our favourites, and we’ll certainly add some of this area into future trips as well. Hope you have a wonderful tour.

Nice! I love this sort of thing for the fond memories they create. It reminds me of a jolly day biking across Osaka years ago: https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/japan2007/day-22-nara-to-kobe-traversing-the-endless-city/#2973_1148698_Osakabikepath.
3 years agoI'm looking forward to your journal and seeing the ViaRhona as it looks today. We toured from Geneva to the Med along the Rhone several years ago, before there was a bicycle route and before we had our e-bikes. We had the wind at our backs the whole time. I think it was one of our best tours. It's also here on CycleBlaze, "From Munich to the Mediterranean" I think it's called.
3 years agoHi,
An excellent plan for September. If you feel like splurging, try Maison Pic in Valence as you go through. Very pricy, but insanely good food. As for the mistral, I once rode from Vinsobres to Orange without pedaling. Whoo-whee! But hang on to your hat!
Cheers,
Keith
That looks fun!
