We will be thinking of you, Dodie, and sending warm thoughts from here in warm Mexico! What a way to begin a new year - you sure do know how to make it special! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
5 years agoBest of luck and bonne année.
David and Maun
I’m with Keith here. Recovery is the whole game, so take whatever time you need. Good luck, we’ll be thinking of you!
5 years agoHi folks,
Best wishes for a speedy recovery, but it will take whatever time it needs. Now more than ever don't rush it. Just think of the end of the road, not the speed limit!
Cheers,
Keith
Thanks Bill. We need to get back on the road soon, to find Andrea some pastries and you some natural mystery (to us) by the road.
5 years agoHang in there, 'cause we expect to see Sandra tomorrow with those lubkuchen. Dodie's aunt always used to send her some around Christmas, so they have fond associations. We sort of think Nurnburg is the lebkuchen capital, but no doubt Sandra's will be from the also famous Dresden.
5 years agoRooting for you from down here in Dayton, OH!
5 years agoYou can do it, Dodie! We've been a little "hangry" for pastry photos but we're willing to hang on a little longer. Seriously, though, Dodie, your perseverance is so inspiring. You got this.
5 years agoThanks Suzanne. Instead of heading straight to the Alpe Adria region, we are now thinking about a quick two months, starting at Bregenz and just getting onto the Donau to Vienna, then to Prague and north east from there. We would return to Austria/Italy in the Fall. We can only stay in Europe for 3 months at a time.
We like the uncrowded shoulder seasons, but always struggle with whether a given month will be too cold. In "Costco" today there was a giant pack of chemical handwarmers on offer. We thought about it!
Thanks Ardell! Dodie seems ready to go on this operation, but I feel I need to build up strength and resolve!
5 years agoOh well, at least we can follow your blog. Last entries were exciting, as you struggled to reach Ticul and Santa Elena. We shared your sense of relief in the two great places you found in those towns.
5 years agoOf course, except for the passes, you can go around vs. over the mountains. But it turns out you are right. Dodie is now talking about some easier routing for two months (April/May) then back in August to begin following some of your tracks and the other routes in Austria/Italy. It's tricky, because mid August would not quite offer three months out of the Shengen zone.
Since in any event we need to start in Austria where the bikes are, avoiding mountains would mean heading up to the Donau. Then it could be Vienna to Prague to Leipzig? We might be able to then leave the bikes with friends in Leipzig...
Thanks Bill, we are eager to get out there to discover more things in nature to try to stump you with!
