"even on crap days magical things can happen."
I am going to make this my mantra for bike touring. Thank you for your wonderful journals. I enjoy them very much and appreciate the commitment it takes to write every day. Happy Travels!

Ben Parke commented on a photo in Helsinki: And the rest of Finland

Not as unusual as you might think. There ar even people with “adventure” cats that travel around with their furry feline on a leash. I could swear I watched some YouTube video about someone who cycled around with their adventure cat too. Or was that a dog? Not I’m not sure. Anyway, my neighbors take their car Frank out on a leash to walk around their yard every day. Frank digs it. I’ve tried this with my cats, but they attempt to escape. They also tend to see birds or squirrels while out on the leash and then try to bolt after them and pull themselves right out of the halter. Then I end up chasing the cat across the yard. You know what looks crazier than a cat on a leash? A guy racing across the yard after his car while holding an empty leash.

I’m really glad you didn’t stop. Otherwise I never would have read about this dude.

Polly Low commented on The unexpected final chapter: The day my dream died

Ah: I knew (from my memory of reading this blog the first time around) that this was coming up - and even though (spoiler alert!) I know it all turned out ok in the end, it’s still a heart-wrenching read…

Although 8 years too late, I felt sorry for you.

"...drop and give me twenty!)" I'd drop and give you 200. Not sure if I left a message or not. So long ago. Probably not though, since I rarely commented unless giving a nature ID. Fun "re-living" the adventure!

Lyle McLeod commented on I'm holding on for a Hera to the end of the night: She's gotta be strong, and she's gotta be fast, and she's gotta be riding a bike

Having cycled around the world, no one has to tell you how big it is … and no one also has to tell you how small and interconnected the cycling community is! The title of this post caught my eye, and my suspicions were confirmed! An on-the-road meet up with Hera. We met her a few years later when she stayed with us in Canmore (WS) as she was racing south ahead of the snow in late October 2016. She came back the next year to show the film she made of her 2016 trip at the Banff film festival. The next year you and Dea were planning on staying with us but your plans changed when you broke e chain-stay. We did ‘host’ your new tent and some tires for a few days though! Probably no more than two or three degrees of separation between everyone on this site!

Gregory Garceau commented on a photo in Links to other cyclist blogs: A mid-season break in Dushanbe

I used to be a pretty tenacious table tennis player--sometimes almost to the point of "bloody violence." I know you liked to make up games such as pine cone throwing. A friend and I made up a table tennis rule in which, if you hit the ball into the net, you were fair game to get pummeled by your opponent until you managed to retrieve it. Crazy fun.

Anyway, yours is one of the few journals I continue to read a second time through. (A third time if you include the book.) Also, I'm glad to be a subscriber to your latest adventure into FATHERHOOD. Congratulations on that.)
