Very Swiss looking! I know it isn't though.
6 years agoThe weather can change very quickly in mountainous areas (even here in the sun burned country) which means you should always carry your wet weather gear. I usually pack tights for leg warmth as well.
Mike
It looks fabulous! I am so envious. My husband went to the Dolomites in June (I couldn't go--the drawback of working in education) and I'm so envious of him too. I'll be retired after the end of December and trying my best to make up for lost time.
The Dolomites are very high on my bucket list but I've decided to postpone until I get my new, lighter bike. I should have it sometime next fall, but too late for a fall tour. Before you asked, I ordered a custom Ti bike from Naked Bicycles on Quadra Island. I should have done it back in 2014 but didn't want to wait.
Thanks David - we agree Cortina would be great spot to spend an anniversary. We will be cycling to Toblach from Cortina in a couple days once we complete the Stella Ronda loop. We heard the route between Cortina and Toblach is compacted gravel surface. Nice to hear from you.
6 years agoOh my, the knee!
6 years agoThanks, Keith and Kathleen! Strangely enough, we weren’t planning to pass through Cortina when we pass through in a few weeks. You’ve changed our minds.
6 years agoAnd the will to do it. Give yourself a lot of credit for this, Tricia. You could be just lying around on the beach somewhere!
6 years agoYes people who discover cycle touring are so lucky. You need three things
Someone to do it with
The health to do it
Be able to afford it
Kathleen
We are all lucky. Maun and I love your enthusiastic reminders, keep them coming.
In our good fortune we got to spend our wedding anniversary in Cortina in 2016, where we had pedaled from Toblach. We are indeed lucky.
Goodness, you two are brave! I simply couldn't do those heights with my tendency to vertigo and my irrational fear (read phobia) of heights. Well done both of you. You definitely deserved the lovely dinner.
6 years agoRight handed!
6 years agoNot me. Extremely right-hand dominant.
6 years agoJust taking a scientific survey, Jacquie and Kathleen - are either of you left handed?
6 years agoI'm left-right challenged too; drives Al crazy but I've always been that way. I have no trouble with navigation but communicating directions is tricky! Anyone who tells me to "turn left" has to allow time for me to think about which way is left.
I'm wondering if Kathleen is just injury-prone?
So I will add Hypothermia to the list of things you need to be protected from! Take care my friend. Today's ride, while fraught, was spectacular.
