Rauchen ist tödlich hören sie jetzt auf
(Smoking is deadly - stop it now!)
For some reason this scenery brings tears to my eyes.
6 years agoWe loved this in Europe too. Just so interesting to sit and watch the world go by.
6 years agoIt is so discouraging in to see this going on. And so distasteful when we are used to not smelling the cigarette smoke over here.
6 years agoThanks for your note David and Maun. Nice to hear from you and sharing your memories. This would indeed be a great area to come back in the winter for a ski holiday. Kathleen loves skiing while I am more comfortable on skates with a stick and puck.
6 years agoYup. Been there, done that too. On our first wedding anniversary tour, I stopped suddenly to look at a waterfall while descending the White Mountains in Vermont. Rachael stopped also, involuntarily. Not good.
6 years agoWe have just ordered the Alpe Adria and the Drau radweg Bikelines (from Book Depository). Your photos and descriptions are inspiring!
6 years agoThis is a Steyr 658, built 1977-1979. Water cooled 4 cylinder diesel, 55 hp.
6 years agoNot sure - I had only this one view of it.
6 years agoIs this one of those mystery ones in Austria with a big H on its name

Yes ... too bad! We were hoping you would be riding up the Drau where we would have crossed paths. But you will enjoy the Dolomites. We certainly did. And good training for the Stelvio! No pressure now. I think we may try to get down to Triest and then head up the Alp-Adria route to Salzburg. We fly home Oct 14 out of Zurich so need to be thinking about heading in that direction.

Wait, come back! We missed you! We’re near Belluno tonight, and will be in Toblach in a few days. So close!
6 years agoWe have been waiting for your reaction to the Disneyland ride from Dobbiaco to Lienz. We loved it, of course, and we are glad you liked it. You are running into way more people on the way than we did by about a factor of ten it looks like. And apparently the bike shuttle is part of the bike tourism explosion as I don't think it was there for us. Heck, we could stay in Dobbiaco and just do that downhill ride every day, can't imagine a better old folks path.
San Candido looked to us as well as maybe a better place to stay. But for those of us involved in skiing Dobbiaco, like Cortina, is important. The daughter of one of our Deer Valley colleagues is on the U.S. Nordic ski team and has raced in Dobbiaco so we felt very luck to be able to spend some time there.
It is fun to share these adventures.

That Yamaha also costs at least $25,000!
