We can’t get over the light. I was reading about the meteorological reasons for it online and it looks like we will be dealing with one of them again next week...wind!
5 years agoWe aren’t home until June 21st, so lots more adventures ahead. Today we explore Roussillon on foot 😀.
5 years agoWe missed the market but the bakery right across the street was wonderful. The Grand Hotel was super. They are really making an effort. Our room was on the back and so quiet and we loved the bike storage room!!
5 years agoWe happened on another converted rail trail yesterday. It was on Keith’s route but we both thought the route would be all quiet D roads, and then boom, there was this amazing infrastructure. We really are enjoying France.
5 years agoToo bad Cycleblaze does not yet support pictures inserted in comments, or I would try to rival your shot with one from the Lochside on Friday, also irises. I think in number of varieties Lochside would be competitive, but your light is much better. No wonder not so many painters flock to Cadboro Bay!
5 years agoI love these! My mom called them 'flags'. I think because they resemble the fleur de lis. What a lovely time you are having. Home soon?
5 years agoWe agree the Grand Hotel is a great choice. Hope you catch the market in the morning.
5 years agoGood choice to stay in France! The food, roads and scenery is great and it’s significantly less expensive than Switzerland.
5 years agoWe are really enjoying Provence. We are off to Roussillon today. It is known for its ochre. Should be interesting.
5 years agoMe too. I love blue
5 years agoI definitely think we are beyond that now!! If Keith and I could have ever done it. I told Keith the other day that I am going to start reporting our distance in km and our climbs in feet hehe. I told him it would sound ever more epic that way. He was horrified. I had to tell him it was a joke 😂. Sometimes he takes me way to seriously.
5 years agoYup, loaded; and preloaded by the 15 mile ride from Nyons, with another 1,500’ of climbing; and it was 90 degrees. No way could we do that any more. If we go back some year, we’ll do it as a day ride too.
5 years agoIt really worked extremely well and I enjoyed just relaxing and spinning. I find the same about stopping, in fact sometimes stopping seems to cause lactic acid to build and then it takes 100 m or so to dissipate. 90 degrees for you! And you had your panniers as I recall. That makes such a huge difference. I feel like a winged fairy without the bags. We had perfect weather for it and we are grateful 😎.
5 years agoGreat job! Hopefully my philosophy worked for you. Every time I stop it’s harder to get started again especially on steeper grades. I did however stop a couple of times when the grade wasn’t too steep. One of my biggest issues was the temperature was about 90 degrees Fahrenheit so I sweating profusely and had flies constantly in my face.

I am so envious. We visited Roussillon on a day ride from Bonnieux back in 2003, in July, in the middle of a historic heatwave. We’ve always want d to go back and stay overnight - we had our photos from Roussillon on the walls of our condo for 15 years.
