Glad you made it home safely! Your travel day like a real gong show. Wishing Dodie a speedy recovery. Take care guys and enjoy the comforts of home.
3 years agoSo good to see you smiling, Dodie! What an epic tale!!!
3 years agoSo sorry your YVR experience was worse than ours. And here I thought it was the fact our flight to Victoria wasn’t on WestJet that caused the return through security. Perhaps it was the fact that we going to a small airport in Canada? In any case, the government seems to just be trying to discourage travel by adding more hoops to jump through. Have a read of this: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/13/health/omicron-travel-setbacks.html?
3 years agoSo glad to see Dodie looking comfortable with the cat in attendance. What an ordeal for both of you this last week has been. Please keep us posted on your recovery. You guys are pretty intrepid, and hopefully you'll be touring again in a few months.
3 years agoUp here, a woodstove and a cat are the most therapeutic things you could want!
3 years agoDodie has started counting the weeks of needed recovery, so she can plan when to bug off to Porto. However, Omicron needs to subside, else it will be too late and we will end up in Leipzig in August, or somesuch!
3 years agoWhat a journey!! So glad you are home sweet home!! Let the serious healing begin and also the R&R!!
3 years agoYes, we woke up at 4 a.m., which is a normal 7 a.m. in Cancun! Even with normal travel, it takes time to overcome jet lag and general travel fatigue. A nap is definitely in order. Oh, I forgot to put Fleurie into the blog. She has been working overtime to get Dodie rested.
3 years agoI’m so exhausted and stressed out for both of you. What a harrowing last week you’ve experienced. I’m so relieved to have you both back home, where hopefully the real recovery can begin.
3 years agoI was thinking that when one is healthy, cycling through small villages, eating unfamiliar food, sleeping in dodgy accommodation, is just part of the adventure. But when ill or injured you can't beat your own bed and in our case, breakfast of bagels and eggs, a blazing wood stove, and a cat that is making sure you sit still and rest!
3 years agoSigh of relief!
Get well soon! (again)
Wow! That's a story for the records. One I'm sure you would rather not be telling. Thank you for taking the time to give us all of the details. I felt as if I were right there with you.
Please, give us the occasional update on Dodie's progress.
Remember, take care of yourself also.
I'll bet it felt great to sleep in your own bed last night.
Glad you’re home but damn that sounds thoroughly exhausting, take a nap with mom (and the cat) too please!
3 years agoHi Michel, Dodie just spotted your question, now that we are home.
Yes, this is a Bafang controller, and it permits you to plug in your smart phone if it needs charging. However Dodie's phone has a big battery and normally does not need help.
Dodie's phone survived the accident, and strangely so did her mirror. Usually, those Mirrcycle mirrors break. However Dodie's glasses did not survive, and she is blind until the optometrist makes her new glasses. They will start work on that Christmas Eve but maybe only have glasses ready a week later!
Wow, the NY Times account makes our story seem so mild! We should put it up as the next page of this blog, or on a forum. All this is clearly of paramount importance to any Cycleblazers planning to blaze about any time soon!
