I’m envious of your knowledge of what to do with ISO and fstop. My formative days were spent with a Kodak Instamatic, and I haven’t learned much since then other than what to look at. I’m pretty sure that at this point the built-in computer is smarter at photography than I’ll ever be.
5 years agoThanks Scott! I want to also thank you for pointing me to the Lumix LX10. Your photos are always first rate, and led me to purchase the Lumix when the lens on my Cannon Powershot got stuck. I've enjoyed playing around with the various features of the camera, as in this shot. I also like the fact that you can physically adjust the fstop and ISO, a rare feature in a compact digital camera. It takes me back to the days of my Nikon FE2.
5 years agoThanks Bill - it truly was spectacular. I kept pinching myself, grateful for the opportunity and ability to visit such an extraordinary place.
5 years agoThanks for the concerns Jacquie! I made it back home having lost only half my toenails! The feet are recovering, and I just bought a new pair of bike shoes - one size larger.
5 years agoThis was pretty tame compared with what was to come - a bit narrow, but good traction and no traffic!
5 years agoThanks Mary - good to hear! I look forward to seeing you back in the gym.
5 years agoLooking good. I am enjoying your journal.
5 years agoWow, is that amazing.
5 years agoI love reading your journal. You are amazing.
5 years agoAnd not the kind of trail I would enjoy!
5 years agoSo sad about the foot problem, but I'm glad to know I'm not the only adult whose feet keep growing out of hiking boots. At 60, my feet are almost two full sizes bigger than they were at 20.
5 years agoBreathtaking photos! And, as always great descriptions. Shared some of your pics at bookclub. Everyone is most impressed at your resilience! So glad the toes are better. Really looking forward to reports from the biking adventure. FYI below 0 here today; windchill 17 below. Great time to have a dog in a condo :-)
5 years agoSpectacular!
5 years agoLooks like the accurately named (time for the drum-roll)... big hairy armadillo! :-)

Interesting conclusions. I’ve toyed with a self supported tour here off and on for probably fifteen years, and always end up concluding that it doesn’t really match our travel style - we don’t camp any more, and stick to pretty tame off-pavement surfaces. The way you describe it more or less squares with what I’d expect - some incredible riding, if you could bridge the gaps.
