The ride looks like a profile of the kite. Well done!

I just saw your comment (6 days later). What an experience to be standing in the same exact place as people who risked so much for basic freedom. Rhona and I cycled the entire Underground Railroad Route several years ago. That tour helped me to realize that our country has never come to grips with the horrors of institution slavery. I obviously haven’t ridden all of the Adventure Cycling routes, but I think that route Has to some of their finest work. I’m surprised it’s not more popular.

Honestly, it was much worse than I described. Certainly my worst bicycle routing decisions ever.

Ugh! Sounds like a day to forget. Hopefully tomorrow will be brighter!

Me again.
The house in Madison, Ohio, where my family lived when I was in high school (too many years ago) was owned by a Methodist preacher before the civil war and he was a « conductor » on the Underground Railroad. The house had (has) a secret passage leading from an attic space to the basement where we suppose escapees were hidden until onward transport could be arranged. The house is still there, but it’s a private residence and not open to the public.
Cheers.

Keith Klein commented on a photo in General Mills

Hi again,
I’m not really sure, but I’ll hazard a guess. It’s a perch for the birds to congregate on. Martins are often seen on wires all in a row, so that’s my guess.
Cheers,
Keith

We’ll, we know which species live there. Any idea about the apparatus on top?

Hi,
These are Martin houses. Martins are colonial and each pair has its own nest/hole. They eat a lot of bugs, and are welcome around the yard.
Cheers,
Keith

Thanks Rich. It’s a bit of a change writing a journal as we go along with another tandem couple. There has been a higher level of fact checking than when Rhona is the only other witness to events. Usually it’s just my word against hers. Margaret and Allen monitor me a little closer. It’s been a great tandem route.

Hi Bill, I don’t think we”lol be heading your direction. It would have been fun to meet up.

Hi Mike, I’m sure you like the dependability of the Rohloff. We just returned from a tour in Germany. Nobody we talked to was aware of the Rohloff or that the inventor had recently died. I’m currently researching changing to a Gebla shifter. Haven’t told the stoker yet.

We have a ROhloff on our Thorn tandem but as a 2012 model it is chain driven. That timing chain is heavy!

Agreed! Especially since the ad on the far left side of placemat is for a funeral home!😬
