Scott Anderson commented on Day 7 - Salurn to Peschiera del Garda

These two posts make a great pairing, Ben. They give a really rounded picture of the highs and lows of bike touring. Well done, well told.

As I write this you'll be climbing the pass with a grin/grimace?.hope it's all going well...It'll be interesting to hear how well the Urban climbs over a sustained climb.

It’s a shame you’re getting such freakish weather, but that seems to be happening to all of us more and more all the time. Good luck tomorrow, and be safe!

I sometimes wonder who designs these routes. I can make some incredibly tight turns, but that was not one of them. I also fret that some crazy road biker will come zooming through pursuing some Strava record and bash in the front of my nice new velomobile. Luckily that hasn’t happened yet.

I totally remember that one. There were mysterious squeaks from the back of the tandem as we sailed into it. :)

Wow. That’s terrible. It’s an expensive lesson to learn. With a velomobile I’ll ride in most any weather, but I did sensibly draw the line at ascending the Reschen Pass in 40F and rain. You would think a hotel on the Gardasee could easily find someone else to take the room.

Since we are on the road for 9 months we are very careful about choosing refundable bookings but we accidentally booked one this time for 3 nights that wouldn’t refund even 1 day.

Good to know. I guess I will not be patronizing non-refundable properties in the future. Too unpredictable these days with extreme changes in weather. It’s about 40F colder today than yesterday. That’s not normal.

The hotel in the Gardasee refuses to refund. Everyone else has been very understanding about the bad weather. It’s really very cold out today.
