I only know the areas around Frankfurt and Munich airports. I’ve never had need of a bike shop because I always packed my bikes myself. The last four I took with a recumbent bike, I used an Azub Origami that folds down and can be packed in a Term Airporter suitcase. I only used it one tour because I switched to touring by velomobile. Which reminds me, I need to get that bike listed for sale. So no, I don’t know of any bike shops to recommend. The only shop I know is a velomobile shop in Aichach near Augsburg, and I don’t think that would be of any help to you.

Thank you for the reply. It doesn’t sound as if you have need of bike shops, being self sufficient. We are also looking for a nearly shop to box our bikes. Mine is a Stratus with couplers. I don’t suppose you’d have any thoughts?

We are landing in Barcelona and taking a taxi to a hotel directly adjacent to a bike shop and starting our trip from there. We are envisioning a similar scenario in reverse for our departure.

Stuttgart is also a possible departure city. I do like small airports.

I’ve stayed five different places, four of which I would recommend: Novotel by the airport, Hilton there at the terminal, Hampton Inn, and Gasthof Neuwirt. The Gasthof is my favorite and where I now try to stay each time. They have a really good restaurant there as well that is usually very busy. 10 jammer breakfast, but transport to the airport is a little tricky. I normally take the bus and train. You could also get an Über.

We are ending our trip in Erding at the Munich airport. Would you have a recommendation for a hotel there?

Thanks

Just read your end of your tour “so long ago”, when I will be going to EU in May, minus toting a bike. At least I have that one “down”, but, you never know what “channels the security brains”…

Easy to see a bunch of great photos and think cycle touring us always wonderful, but there are always going to be highs and lows.

I sure do. I am sure they will be very happy to see me, though I’m sure grandpaw has been spoiling them while I was gone.
