6 years agoHi Susan,
Wow, we missed being in Bordeaux at the same time by one day! I find it interesting to see what others saw and focused on in the same places I have visited. It would be fun to meet some day and compare notes.
Cheers and bonne route,
Keith
We found and also breached the same barriers on our way through her a few months ago.
6 years agoWedding done I had a chance to catch up with your travels today. Other than the rain & mud, it sounds like you are having the adventure you planned. Jealous of your adventuresome spirit.
6 years agoKamiah & I toured Chambord when we visited the Loire region. I thought this stairway was quite amazing.
6 years agoSuzanne - yes, I am able to lift bike onto the hook without help, but it isn't very easy, especially if the train starts moving! This is one of the major reasons I wanted a lighter bicycle for touring than my steel Trek 520, which did require assistance to put on the hooks.
6 years agoInteresting perspective! Were you able to get the bike up without help?

First off, the Canal du Midi is appalling from where you were today right through to the end. Secondly, you CAN find somewhat quieter D (departmental) roads that go in the right direction, and it is really worthwhile to try to locate them. The ones with the higher numbers, 9xx or 8xx are too busy, but the single or double digit roads are usually not too bad. Check out our most recent blog for the ways we rode that section, it might be of some help.
