Beautiful portrait.
2 years agoSuzanne - I'm so glad that you enjoyed the journal - it was indeed a splendid tour!! Your comments throughout always brought a smile, and I look forward to catching up with all your past and future adventures.
6 years agoKathleen - Thanks for your comment. France is a wonderful place to tour and I encourage you to give it a go. If so, I'd be happy to give you any tips/advice etc.
6 years agoThanks Keith - Burgundy remains one of my favorite regions of France and I will definitely be in touch if I'm in the area!
6 years agoThanks for your comment Paul. My French is pretty rudimentary but I am not hesitant to use it. I find people in Paris usually switch to English after I've said just a few words while folks in other parts of France seem more tolerant/comfortable communicating in French - always with some English thrown in when we reach an impasse!
6 years agoSuzanne - I really did not have much of a choice. I was not going to backtrack uphill on that dirt road. I wasn't too concerned about running into the landowner/farmer as the people I met in France we so welcoming and helpful. Cows are usually not aggressive, but a bull might have been a different story!!
6 years agoThanks Steve - It was a pretty experience. I look forward to reading about Grampies next adventures
6 years agoSuzanne, I'm delighted that you're enjoying the journal - thank you! I've been very impressed with the increasing bicycle infrastructure in France - based on what I've observed, they are really trying to promote cyclo-tourism. I look forward to reading the journal of your adventures in the Rhone Valley.
6 years agoAmen!
6 years agoThe sign is confusing, but it I'm ignoring any rule requiring me to ride across that bridge!

Thanks for all your advice/comments during the trip - it helped me decide to take the train to Macon, which was a great decision!
Sorry to see your ride is over - I've enjoyed your daily journal entries. It was a splendid tour!
6 years agoWhat a wonderful tour. I love how much you drank in each day's ride. I want to ride in France immediately.
6 years agoSusan,
The next time you come to Burgundy give me a holler. My wife (also Susan) and I live in Gevrey Chambertin and if you are in the neighborhood, as you were , it would be fun if you could stop by. Or at the least we could meet for lunch or dinner.
Cheers,
Keith
Thanks Scott!! I rather fancy it myself :)
