It's a German company. Been around for about 27 years. Put out cheap, trendy clothes.

Haha - my university department, a 7 floor tower, had a paternoster elevator/lift! Students used to ride it all the way around the top, so they'd emerge standing on their heads on the way down. I used it a few times but never dared do that... The whole tower is gone now!

Another fantastic journal, thanks for writing it. It brought back many memories of my time in Germany cycling some of the same paths as you. I must admit to some jealousy in that my wife isn't a cyclist and I can't copy your adventure. Looking forward to your next journal, best of luck

Buddy

I can’t believe you made her carry her own panniers! What kind of professional tour guide does that!

Other than that, great journal. I’m really glad for both of you that it worked out, and glad for us that you shared the experience. More like this!

Here in England Ordnance Survey maps would call that a "restricted byway"

The locals avoid the dirt section by riding a bit farther away from the river through a small village with paved roads. But unless you ride this route a lot, you would never know.

Rudesheim is indeed a touristy area. I often crossed the river from Weisbaden to Mainz, rode up to Bingen and took the same ferry as you to cross over to Rudesheim and then rode back on that side to Weisbaden. Rudesheim is a popular setting-off spot for day cruises along the Rhine, and tourists drive there, or take the train there, spend half a day on a Rhine cruise, then spend time in Rudesheim. What I did like about it is that there were often small concerts in town - a weary cyclist could enjoy a beer and listen to music while resting a bit. But definitely a tourist area.

I recognize the castle/hotel better from this view. I rode past it along the Rhine on many of my weekend rides, and I often thought it would be really cool to stay there - and you did it! Now I know just how cool it would have been, thanks for the photos of the inside.

My adult children would absolutely have no idea how to use this phone!

I recognize that one! From this point on down to Mainz I'm really going to enjoy the trip down memory lane.

If I'm not much mistaken, that sounds significantly cheaper than a divorce. Money well spent, I'd say!!

Great journal, Mark! I loved it! I'll shamelessly steal parts of your route and your hotel choices for an upcoming tour.
