How cool! They are such interesting creatures! Mexico has the greatest diversity of tarantula species in the world.
5 years agoThat's a tough one! From what I can find, I think it might be strawberry cactus. Spines look so much like barrel cactus, but they are not laid out on ridges, but rather on humps.

By the way, did you notice the dirt-encrusted spines in the upper left? That is what termites do to get to various kinds of woody tissues above ground.
It is good to know that you were not eaten by some fearsome wildlife! Sounds like fun times.
5 years agoYou'll be getting fat sitting around that pool. Harder to pull a fat ass up a hill.
Hope you've got your mojo back now that you're doing regular blogs. Great to read them.
Alan & Wendy.
Yep, tanline it is, but I needed the hints to see it! Nicely done! Next time I'll try harder without resorting to hints, I promise!
5 years agoThis is such a great blog, I'm enjoying every entry, it's very complimentary to Dea's writing and the photos are great! Keep up the good work!
5 years agoAh, now that's our kind of mileage right there! We have reached the "mañana" stage of worrying about where we are and how we will get to the next spot. Fortunately for us, we are not encumbered with your dislike of motorized transport and will be pinning our hopes on catching the local bus down to Campeche tomorrow - 157 km in two days is just a bit too much for us in this heat!
5 years agoWe have a winner! :-) Good job!

Bienvenitos is welcome!
5 years agoTake five, Bill. Even I know this one. Turkey vulture!
5 years agoHi Dea and Chris, cycling without paniers, campingmaterial, etc ... doesn’t that feel a little bit strange?
5 years agoIt was fun, but I find some of their botanical identifications slightly suspect.
Then again, not actually having hands-on, my identifications are more than slightly suspect.
Billy? It has been 50 years or more since I was called Billy! (except for my older sister) :-)
Missed that one for sure.

Hi Chris and Dea,
5 years agoAndrea Brown recommended your journal and I've greatly enjoyed your past few entries. And look forward to reading through the older posts.
Congrats to you both on making it through a tough day. Enjoy the rest and pool time!
