Ouch! Thank goodness it isn’t broken. We are booking forward to following along.
2 years agoI won't call any Rumex wildflowers... Nothing flowery about them. I really do like the lookup site for IDs of all kinds of plants north of central Mexico and north to southern Canada.
2 years agoWe cannot afford this in Europe any more, but a cataplasm with Canadian mustard seeds could heel the pain ?
2 years agoIs it a curse on us that the best times of the year for bicycle touring also happen to be when the grass grows the most?
2 years agoSorry to hear about your wrist.
2 years agoIt's a big generous to call this brute a wildflower!
The site gives the maximum height as 53 inches, which accords with my four foot claim!
Of all the Rumex species in the area, (14 according to Wildflower Search website) it seems to match western dock the best.

Given my British heritage and my fondness for Cream Tea, I would humbly suggest you wade into the ages old conflict between Devon Cream Tea (scone, clotted cream, jam) and Cornish Cream Tea (scone, jam, clotted cream). Either way you can’t lose!
2 years agoYes, and in England they speak English, sort of!
(In a strange reversal, in France they speak a French that we can understand. Not so much in our native Quebec)
Awe, I think fondly of you both as well.
2 years agoThere's no stopping you! A clever plan to work around those irritating Schengen restrictions. I am looking forward to your ride and new journal.
2 years agoWe have some posts prepared on some of the preliminary topics, like how to assemble the currencies needed for the trip, but in a few days the England and then the France routes will hit the stands.
2 years agoThanks Kris. Marvin and I were sharing some fond memories of you just the other day!
2 years agoOK. Looking at the timings it seems we will be able to spin around Provence a little bit, and also the Camargue. We had the Bikeline Provence book sent to our friend in Leipzig for tomorrow, and he will be flying here later in the week. So we'll scan maps from that for some Peter Mayle fun.

You really made me laugh. We came home in 2019 and while deep cleaning my handlebar bag I discovered the 275 Swiss Francs I had squirrelled away and forgotten when we entered Italy. No problem I thought, and no worries either as we will be back in Switzerland. But then Covid, followed by your blog post that made me realize my CHF are most likely old, out of date, only to be exchanged in a Swiss bank currency now! However this year we fly into Portugal, not Switzerland. Fortunately, as it turns out, 175 is the new currency and the exchange here switched it into Euros for me. I still have a 100 CHF note though. I guess that is a good excuse to get back to Switzerland! Not this trip though.
