I agree with Scott - let us know what you are looking for and let lots of us look for you! I the mean time, Ugh! What a situation to be in!

Wow, we are feeling you pain. When we had our battery problem last week Dave rode for one day without assist and it was an ordeal. Sounds like this will take a real resest of your trip. So sorry.

This actually happened on our first time at Anacortes. Those islands looked so flat on our flat paper map! I think the trap road was called Beach Drive. Beaches are flat, right? Not when the beach is a cliff!

Also, I would really think seriously about the hill situation. I’m imagining you coasting down some hellishly steep slope to a stream crossing and seeing one just as steep climbing up the other side. Too steep to push your heavy bikes up in either direction, trapped at the bottom, hemmed in on a narrow single-track with a dense hedgerow on either side. A terrible way to go.

That is bad news alright. And you’re in Kent, one of the flattest parts of England. I’d be really leery of getting much north of the Fens without finding a solution to this. Do you have an identification (manufacturer, product #)? You might let folks know and they could help you search for it.

That is really bad news about your e-assist. I have my fingers crossed that you find a solution.

We have already spent most of the evening trying to figure out a place to shift to, by train, that is both interesting and somewhat within our price range. So far not much luck, all of England is totally absorbed with the Queen's funeral and almost everything within 50 or more km from London seems fully booked. We found a place just down the road for tomorrow night and will regroup and think some more then.

Steve and Dodie, we are so sorry this has happened. I hope Jacquie’s kind offer works out. In the meantime, have you thought of finding a place you really like the look of and jumping on a train and spending a few days there? You can switch up the biking with some serious sight seeing. We are currently at a resort in Luz in the Algarve and have already decided to stay another night. We don’t need to hurry. It has taken us seven tours to figure this out.

Yes, we are surprised to see this in the heart of the former Empire. Britain is of course not the first empire to fall, and you can find less than glorious things in Italy, Greece, Spain, and now U.S., such as in shocking Baltimore, Washington, or Chicago

Interesting, Beth. But single track, heavily loaded, on 20 inch wheels just has to suck, at least if you are trying to get anywhere.

France would be a real relief now, even if they perversely all do speak French!

Yes, even 10 years ago here we still seemed to make some sort of progress. Today we are shooting for just 44 km and it is not certain we can make it!

Having my assist fail is almost a deal breaker. But maybe Jacquie Gaudet will be able to help by sending some parts by courier to Maisons Lafitte. That still leaves England to cope with!
