We have considered it, believe me. Or possibly a blow torch..... If only they were not so heavy.

We admire your tenacity and your ability to carry on and make the most each day. We caved today and took a train to avoid the killer hills!

Maybe you should carry a pipe wrench snd do those a favour following you.

Way more picturesque than a simple wooden or stone milepost, though.

Dodie said the TV series did not live up to the books, which readers often say of movies. But the series was really good.

That's a beautiful bridge!

All duly noted. Thank you for preparing the way for us, it really has helped a number of times.

We had felt encouraged by your report of not finding the darn things, but we seem to not only still be encountering them but finding multiples almost every day! So annoying.

If you’re planning to bike to Stonehenge I’ll remind you of the route we took to get there, by way of Stonehenge Road west of Amesbury. It’s not part of the NCN network, but has the same spirit - meaning the last mile is an unpaved track - first beside the shoulder of unbikeable A303, and then a short distance up the hill after crossing the highway.

An alternative might be to approach on one of the small roads from the north, maybe through Larkhill, but I don’t really know.

Also, if you end up staying in Marlborough I would ‘not’ recommend the Green Dragon.

I’m really surprised by this. We encountered them often on the east side (Kent and around), biput once we got as far north as about Ely I don’t remember another on the last two months of our ride.

And did you see Sir Derek Jacobi lurking about somewhere in the gardens? That would have been the icing on the cake!

The dappling in the repaired section gives it an unfortunate appearance of a failed attempt at camouflage.

It's quite jarring to have modern brick butted against 500+/- year old half timber.

Those double-red lines are 'no stopping', rather than a bike lane. (Until quite recently, there was a very nice bike path along this road -- it was put in during the pandemic -- but the taxi drivers complained so they took it out again. Crazy! There is, in fact, quite a nice way to cycle from St P to Paddington, but it involves a lot of wiggling around the back streets. Next time! [I know you swear there'll be no next time, but...])

The Bodelian is the square building towards the back of your shot. In the foreground is the Radcliffe Camera (which is also, now, part of the Bodleian Library -- just to confuse matters!)
