We enjoyed visiting Bath 20 years ago. I particularly recall visiting the "Royal Crescent", an arc of what must now be quite posh townhouses, and also seeing a segment of a street that dates back to Roman times; it's now about 15 to 18 feet below the present street level: proof, after a fashion, that Bath really has grown "up".

What category of food is flapjack? And where do you go to buy it?

Before you leave England you should try some flapjack. Really good for cyclists about to bonk.

It seemed like a good one at the moment (in the train station). Oh well, it is only for the one night!

Brings back fond freezing memories of Frank and I arriving in Bath on a wet miserable cold day…..even thought this was the same hotel we stayed in, very similar but your room and bike storage is way worse than ours was. Also picked at last moment Fun times

Sure is...and tomorrow looks like it might be sort of the same.

English pubs have such a wonderful atmosphere, a combination of low heavy beams, dark furniture and the ghosts of Sunday lunches.

Beautiful. Makes me think it's been too long since I've been able to visit the Crow & Gate.

Not bad! You’re right, magpies are surprisingly hard to get a good shot of.

Its great to have an option to jump on a train or bus to make up time or avoid some nastiness. We are finding here in Spain because of the language issue we can’t easily take advantage of local knowledge.

Some would say stubborness, rather than tenacity. Actually we will probably take a train tomorrow and again in a few days so that we can make the jump to France as soon as possible.
