Many happy returns Dodie and shake off the cold.
2 years agoLooks like velomobile riding heaven. Flat, perfect pavement.
Get well soon, Dodie and happy almost birthday
Get well Dodie, and Happy Birthday a day in advance of the fact.
2 years agoThanks Suzanne. With the Covid precautions we have not had a cold in three years. We did not bring any cold tablets on the trip. Might have to look for some tomorrow in the town.
2 years agoGet well, Dodie!
2 years agoI remember we had given up on these last time in Bretagne - too greasy maybe - but these were wonderful. There is a bakery in Montreal called the Kouign Aman that makes perhaps the best ones, best croissants too.
2 years agoPaul, I went in and corrected the four Richard references! So you can return to being aka Paul!
2 years agoJanos's favorite!
2 years agoWe read this also while doing a Google search. Not much comfort for the relatives of all the fallen.
2 years agoThere certainly is. I had a similar experience when riding Land's End to John O Groats with a B&B in Gloucester. Awful weather, I was wet, tired and knocked on the door of the B&B that I'd had prebooked, but not paid for. Owner opened the door, looked at me, denied she had a booking for me and slammed the door. Similar experience in Norfolk. I now never used B&Bs. Pubs with rooms above/attached, Premier Inn, Travel Lodge, Hotels etc - far more welcoming and accommodating.
Paul
Thanks, Keith.
2 years agoCanadian historian David O'Keefe has an excellent book on the raid, titled One Day In August. He had access to classified documents that earlier historians did not. Turns out the raid was actually cover for an attempted snatching of an Enigma machine and codebooks. Ian Fleming is a significant player formulating the raid.
2 years agoIf it's been handled with what seems to an outsider as the typical French disregard for routine maintenance and upkeep it's no wonder it's a bit "crumbly".
2 years agoOh this made me laugh. After all your grumbling about narrow steep staircases in England. I'm glad you found a proper staircase to get back to the ground.

Joyeux anniversaire Maman! Have a great birthday celebration tomorrow, and being in France makes it even better.
