Glad you’re enjoying the canals and small roads of Burgundy, they’re some of my favorite. I had a most enjoyable stay at the Purple Heron back in May. Please give Martin and Yolanda a big hello for me - not sure if they’ll remember me, but I think cheery greeting is always welcome. Thanks
2 years agoI've used the heatmaps on RidewithGPS showing where other people ride but sometimes punt and let the algorithm do it. Appreciate your notes about other good sources for curated routes.
2 years agoAt least it isn’t a telephone pole like at home!
2 years agoYes Dijon and Avallon are quite north, compared to where we are now. I am looking at a map called "Cycling in Burgundy" and I can see all the routes very clearly. We are following part of the "Tour de Bourgogne". It is all very beautiful here. When time permits, I'll track down where you went. You must have been in the "Morvan" park? Steve
2 years agoI see you are on a different route than we were traveling coming from Dijon via Avallon. Looks very nice.
2 years agoWrong map, I think!
2 years agoBeats me!
2 years agoI just looked on the Semco.fr website (which has an English option). It seems the idea is to roll one's bike through the slot, which would be tricky with low-slung panniers. I think my bike would make it with rear panniers, but I'd have to pop off the front ones if I was using them. I suspect that might be quicker than trying to get through the U-shaped, supposedly rotating gate. Or, if I didn't have full-coverage fenders mounted, I could roll my bike upright on its rear wheel, probably backwards.
2 years agoYou will find that you have to go to a surgeon specialising in hand and wrist surgery. Quite a bit of initial investigation as it is important the injection is in the exact right spot hence when you get it it is CT guided
2 years agoWe have decided we really enjoy the Ibis Styles. Bigger rooms, goid breakfasts, all good! Going to review your routes and see if we can pick up some hints.
2 years agoInteresting about the wrist injection. Dodie will have to see the doctors upkn return home and see what they suggest. It sure takes alot if the fun out of things to be in pain all the time!
2 years agoWe stayed at an Ibis in Auxerre, too. But I think it was the Ibis budget. Looking forward to what you experience in Burgundy. You will probably be cycling some of the same routes that Susan, the Andersons and Janos and I were on in May.
2 years agoDodie is so not a seafood fan. And sharks! Uggghh!
2 years agoAlthough the gate rotates skightly the trick is to get the bike positioned so that it both fits in and can be shifted inside to pivot through the barrier. Not really easy with front and rear bags.

It certainly is a lovely place, is it not. We will pass on your greetings at breakfast.
