We love this reference, because it not only shows that we were not dreaming up the things that bugged us near Decin, but that another (respected!) blogger could freely express any negative feelings. We are just now going to put up a forum post to survey whether people prefer in a blog a frank narrative that can be both positive or negative, or one that glosses over negatives, or one that stresses negatives (even if they are all true or heartfelt.)

2 years agoOn our first bike tour in Europe we were heading up the Mosselle when a couple locals out for a day ride passed us. We picked up the pace and rode along with them chatting them up. They suggested we follow them to a friend’s winery which sounded like a great idea. We did a wine tasting with our new found friends and the winery owner. They rented rooms and we ended up spending the night at the winery. The breakfast that was provided was over the top with a variety of fruit juices, eggs, cheeses, meats, smoked salmon, veggies, breads, croissants, sweet stuff etc etc etc. There happened to a selection of 10 jams … thus the name “10 jammer” came to mind. Basically a scale of 1-10 to that we would use to rate our breakfasts. No need though to have 10 jams in our opinion to get the top rating. So breakfast with “only 6” jams could indeed be a 10 jammer for us.
Enjoying your misadventures on the road. Maybe you should carry a battery operated chain saw with you to remove those annoying trees blocking your path. Safe travels!
Or maybe she just looks older because she’s still camping.

I don’t remember stairs. I tried going up this hill on the road out of Libotenice but it was too steep so I turned back and kept riding along River. I don’t remember stairs and the path was really nice to Decice, actually new pavement so very smooth. I rode on right side of river than as I got into Decice I crossed the bridge and found a restaurant which had the owner speak English & was from Boston who married a Czech gal & opened a cafe, that’s how I had buffalo wings. My garmin map showed the way. The rest of ride was uneventful up to Dresden. OMG those stairs look horrid!
2 years agoI remember this so well!!
2 years agoI tried to give a more balanced account today (Day 81), but honestly it does not look like we will return to Czechia - this part anyway.
2 years agoWe're glad to see we didn't just invent this one. But how about all those stairs near Usti - see today's entry - Day 81.

2 years agoOh dear, I had wrote about the single track path from hell & even put a map in to show where it was! It looks nice worse than it did when I went through back in 2019, no fallen trees or water. Next time I go through I will take the roads. Glad you made it, it was a long section, I guessed about 3 to 4 miles of roughing it. I saw YouTube before I went but didn’t think it was that bad, but again they didn’t have fully loaded >100 lb bike either. The rest of way up Elbe is fabulous, enjoy!
2 years agoSteve and Dodie,
It was great meeting you on the trail! I’m so inspired by you, when I thought my 230 km trip from Prague to Dresden is a lot then you told me about your 5000 km cycle tour! 5000 km… and you a bit older than me, just 50% older :)
You guys are amazing, please keep doing this and inspire more and more people!
Regarding to our route, I turned right near Klecany where sign was showing to turn right, looks like you somehow missed it.
When we saw the (first, not even the worst) stairs, we considered sticking on the road. But the track was so clearly marked through the stairs, we figured they know what they were talking about. Dodie later said she was sorry she spotted the route signs at the stairs. Had we stayed on the road, it would have been a possibly scary couple of km, and then the track and the road joined. Maybe you missed seeing that the track wanted you on the stairs, and you just sailed down the road!
