It must have been bought out as a franchise and spread to the US (it's in the background mall scene of the netflix show "Stranger Things", set in the 80s)

Ick! I’d be looking for a paved road.

2 years agoThat is a real classic a Lanz Bulldog made mainly in the thirties they went all around the world. If you hunt hard enough you will find one in Canada. They are a two stroke diesel but run on any old oil, waste oil often used
The blow torch is used the make a hot spot on the cylinder to vapourish the oil as there is no spark plug. Then the steering wheel is taken off to use as a crack handle. Lots of excitement and that wonderful two stroke sound
Hey Deve and Stodie! Prima! Wunderbar esp the traditional dress. When I lived in Schwarzwald I learned women with black pompoms on hats were married whereas red meant single! Your adventure is epic and your pics fabulous keep em coming and if you will indulge me...now I see what all the FUSSEN was about😛
2 years agoJoel, can you email us her phone number and email address? We are actually at Bad Tolz right now, but first we have to go to Salzburg and swing down into the Alps and back. It'll be three week until we appear at Munich. We are not sure how our time and plans will look, but it's a maybe!
p.s. Did you quit on your blog?
We have a good friend who is an Anglican priest and professor of theology. I like to badger him about whether the religion really believes this stuff. He says not literally, but symbolically. I guess he would have the same out for whether the earth was created in seven days.
2 years agoActually we felt part of a movement - of so many cyclists, enough to push the cars around. I am writing this a week later, and now we have rain and chill. No matter, because we brought the appropriate gear!
2 years agoWe agree with you. Some might disparage the place as just a tourist attraction, but hey, we are tourists!
2 years agoYes, only in Switzerland - just as Almdudler is Austria only. I would like to do a Coke/Pepsi taste test on them, but that would mean carrying a bottle from one country to test in the other.
2 years agoI sill don't get it. Each battery manufacturer has a proprietary connector at the battery end, while connection to mains power is standard. So why do these guys have a custom fitting at the source end? - Oh, I guess their box on the wall is not just a power source, but is a "charger". Maybe at the battery end they are compatible with several popular brands?
2 years agoIt's almost no use walking up now, with all the covid restrictions.
Hey Bill, what are you thinking about all the meadows and meadow flowers we are seeing?
I recall this section of the Bodensee-Königsee all too well. It is not an easy ride with a touring recumbent with touring tires either. I think about the only good bike for this stretch is a mountain or gravel bike, and I’m not entirely sure a gravel bike would survive it either. I have video footage of a jogger passing me as I bumped along. The jogger left me in the dust.
