Isn’t that a wonderful day. So glad you didn’t let Bikeline freak you out about the tunnel. Now the climb toBad Gastein is over it is all easy to Grado. You certainly will be glad you have functioning brakes when you get off the train in the morning!

Congrats on getting to Bad Gastein! The hardest work is done, the best is yet to come!
If you need help returning from Grado, this is a great service. https://www.fahrradtransfer.com/start-english

I never saw anything wrong with the tunnels since you are safely separate from the cars.

Such good fortune on your brake repair! I can only imagine the stress you must of felt having your bike not working right and the tremendous relief that a qualified tech could immediately solve the problem. Priceless I am sure! You can now confidently sail down the hill from Mallnitz. Looking forward to reading all about it as we had to take a train due to weather on that section last year.

Definitely worth the walk up there. The grotto has some nice views down into the valley. I was there in my first trip, but the second time I came through, my plans to visit the falls were foiled by an overly dramatic thunderstorm.

Maybe a weather station?

The Dachstein Massif is a fair bit to the East. I think it would only be visible from the top of the mountains in this area. If looking west here, probably this is the mountains around Berchtesgaden. If memory serves, the further out Mountain views along here are to the west, but my memory is a little fuzzy as well.

45 minutes-Oh my. This is why we ask the readers to do the research/identification work. By the time you had it figured out we were long asleep. Oh, and thanks to Andrea for being so clever to begin with.

If only I'd read the comment, I would have saved about 45 minutes of image searching!

Good job Andrea!

The Dachsteins maybe? I don’t really know the mountains around heee but I remember the Dachsteins from a tour that ended with a ride from Nnsbruck to Salzburg back in 1999.

And you are staying in exactly the same lovely pension we did. Hope you had dinner there it was very tasty. What gave meaning to my life today - staying in that guesthouses and sailing along through the mountains

This is Germander speedwell, in case you were wondering, Veronica chamaedrys. Do you agree, Bill? It has that distinctive veronica petal distribution and sweet blue color.
