I'm in the north of England where it is a common wild flower. I suspect its status will be similar in the Loire valley.
3 years agoIs purple loosestrife native to the area? A virulently invasive non-native in western US. We had one plant at the last place I worked and the county agricultural agent monitored the area for several years.

3 years agoI love this entry, in its own right as well as for the memories it rings back. We rode this stretch in 1993 on our first European tour our way back to Paris. We stayed in La-Charité and watched the sun set from its ruined walls.

Hi Scott - thanks for the reminder! Yes, we’ve been to Conques but on a car trip. I’d forgotten that tympanum. It’s definitely more ornate than this one, but similar in how much detail you can still see. Lovely stuff!
