Thanks for the write-up! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't have to be convinced to take up touring, but I certainly have been motivated to plan some cycling in France next year. To my experience France has the best infrastructure of small roads with little traffic in all of Europe.
3 years agoI had to google map Durfort - I had no idea where it was. We've never ridden our bikes up there, but I have a tour planned that will pass close by. The Montagne Noir is a really interesting area that has a different feel than where we are. So much to explore in such a small area!
3 years agoHi Suzanne - You might very well have photographed that door. I have a suspicion that the plantings around the door are not as random as they seem. I think I see the hand of a gardening artist. It really attracts the eye, and I wouldn't be surprised if it attracted yours, too!

3 years agoIsn't that the late stage of canola/rape seed that is such a bright yellow in the spring?
3 years agoI have the feeling when we cycled along the Loire I photographed that very same door, too. Probably not, that would be too great a coincidence, but same color door and hollyhocks.
3 years agoDitto what Rachael said, what wonderful surroundings you have. I am a bit familiar with the other side of the Montagne Noir where my sister had a house in the village of Durfort.
3 years agoWhat a fantastic solution!
3 years agoThanks Rich. You've inspired us to write up our 2017 trip to the Loire.
3 years agoThanks for this journal. Al and I really enjoyed reading it as we did a similar route to yours in reverse in April 2017 (no journal yet). We didn't have your good luck at Chenonceau unfortunately. We were there in a pouring rainstorm with way too many people crowding inside the chateau. Going there first thing in the morning sounds ideal.
3 years agoSorry to see it come to an end, folks. Looking forward to the next edition.
3 years agoWhat? No goat pic??
3 years agoThe green bikes, the purple lockers - nice composition!
3 years agoThat’s not camping, but it would work for us.

You convinced me! We are now proud owners of Sena helmets. They are wonderful, thanks for the write up! I mentioned them over at the Cycle365.life site. (Somehow couldn't get the link to my specific entry to work.)
