Thank you, Mark. I did follow ACA Section 7 with the only exceptions being detours we encountered. Yep, it was still that bad. Oooof. I just finished your 5th entry and look forward to the next one on the EST. I'm hoping to ride that in 2023, but turning toward NYC like Hakeem. We'll see.
1 year agoI'm enjoying your well-written journal. I noted in your first post that you're using the ACA maps. Is that also how you picked your route through Miami? And it was *still* that bad? If so, I'll be heeding your advice and going inland.
1 year agoYep, I carry cotton but it didn’t snag anything. Thanks.
1 year agoTire wire punctures...
Years ago on a bike touring site I read that you can easily find wires by wiping a wad of cotton inside the tire and the wires will catch fibers making it easy to find them (and less bloody). I tried it. It works. I have carried a wad of cotton for a couple decades now.
Thanks!!

This one basically states, "if nothing... state park WILL* accommodate them as best as possible.
I love that "no cyclist shall be turned away." Can you post a reference for the rest of us to share with our own version of the lady on the front line? The only thing I could find was in the FAQ where it says: "If none are available or time is short, park staff MAY (my caps) use temporary space for one night to provide accommodation, charging one night’s fee." The only one I found says "may" instead of "must."

I'm enjoying your impressions of Florida and, for that matter, all of your journal-writing so far. I couldn't help but notice you changed your last name while on tour. COOL! I hope you do it a couple more times.
