Memory is a strange function - my father-in-law had a stroke and lost speech but could sing and curse!
A memory stuck in my head: an episode of the Mary Tyler Moore show where Ted Baxter told Mary a 'knock knock' joke:
Knock knock
Who's there?
Anna Maria Alberghetti
Anna Maria Alberghetti who?
Anna Maria Alberghetti in a taxi, honey.
I still don't really know who Anna Maria Alberghetti is or where the song "I'll Be Getting in a Taxi Honey" came from (Google just told me both) but they are permanently embedded in my memory...
My dad directed a community theater production of "Oklahoma" in about 1966. He has dementia now, but he can still sing parts of the songs from that play--especially "Everything's Up to Date in Kansas City."
1 month agoI’m old enough to remember when it came out in 1955, when I was in the fourth grade. The family saw it at a drive-in back in West Virginia. Several of the songs are still clear in my head.
1 month agoOh, my gosh. What a horrifying story, John. How terrifying for her, and for you too I’m sure. I’m relieved to hear she’s come through it OK.
1 month agoHarrowing is a good word for what happened but it could have been so much worse! Part of my job duties over the past 15 years has been dealing with the press, so when they showed up at our door Carole asked me to talk to them and they did a good job.
3 months agoIt must have been a harrowing ordeal for both you and Carole. I admired your poise while being interviewed by the news reporter. You have a fine media presence.

Another fine write up! Thanks for documenting it! Hopefully the next ride will include the “Cumberland climb” on the GAP and the Ghost Town Trail in Indiana County.
