I looked at your proposed route today and see that you will be riding the road between Saint Maries and and the trailhead at Heyburn State Park. Be very careful of this highway -it is very narrow and winding with lots of logging trucks. No shoulder and drivers will not be able to see you as they come around the corners.

3 years agoHi,
Sorry to hear about the smoke. Your holy land seems to have been desecrated. May the wind of purity blow your way.
Cheers,
Keith
Well, that’s the last STRAW!
Always glad to be of service, such as it is.
The Wheatland Best Western. Been there many a time. They make their money off of events at WSU. There and any other hotel within a similar distance to campus requires a two night stay on football weekends. Visiting teams (think basketball/volleyball) will stay there.

3 years agoI slept like a log last night, but I have to admit I didn't finish the whole growler.
3 years agoYes, I knew you had a Hubba Hubba. You might have had some influence on my decision to buy one, knowing all the time you spend in a tent.
I'm packing up to begin today's ride and unfortunately the smoke is still here.
I don't know about that, Paul. But I do know Mike has some pretty big shoes to fill.
3 years agoThank you, Keith, for always being there to correct my mistakes. I'm not going to correct it in my journal this time, though. I want everybody to see what a bonehead I am.
3 years agoWhen we parked at the trailhead in Plummer, the Coeur D'Alene tribe had a wall honoring the men who had died in the Steptoe Battle.
3 years agoIs that Mike the tent pretending to be Jim? :-)
3 years agoLooks like your tour is off to a great start. Nothing like having a whole campground to yourself. I've traveled with one of Mike's cousins, Mr Hubba Hubba, since 2017 and been pretty happy with it. Hope Mike is as good to you as Jim. I still miss my North Face Tadpole - but, like all good things, they stopped making it. I love that canyon scenery and I'm crossing my fingers the smoke moves out for you.
3 years agoI’m glad you didn’t lose your phone!

Hi Bob,
3 years agoYes, I figured that place gets a nice share of the WSU business that overflows from Pullman. On my tour two years ago I think I got the last hotel room in Pullman on back to school weekend. And I paid a premium price for a pretty dumpy motel too.
