Very interested in your cruise. I've always been fascinated by inland waterways, but our experience of them was limited to a week on the Thames from Oxford to Windsor on a hotel barge in 1981 (magical experience), and a traverse of the Llangollen canal on a hired narrow boat in 1987. (Hard work, but quite rewarding.)
6 years agoMarie and I attended a Russian Orthodox service in Zagorsk in 1984 (nearing the end of the Soviet era). Very similar, we stayed about 30 minutes, all the Intourist guide would allow us. (Like all those guides, she trotted out the party line about the error of religion.) Surprisingly, the church was pretty full, the congregation included younger people and soldiers.
It was quite moving, actually, although the service was quite incomprehensible to us.
Hi. It appears to have been a really good experience and never a dull moment. Shame about the water level. I guess it has disrupted quite a few journeys. , but you almost finished it. Await the next episode. Xx pat

You are a woman of Ken's dreams if you delight in tractors !
ciao
Tricia
Using Bikeline books it is around 2500km so we will see. It really feels as if we are almost underway with a post up and some comments on it. Won't post every day until we are in Hamburg and buying bikes but will attempt to show parts of the Danube that we wish we had cycled on.
Thinking of you Dodie stuck to the sofa, this time next year it will be a different story
Tricia
No hope of forgetting the tractor pictures. Ken is always wanting me to put on more than I do !
