Following along on your adventure. I've been surprised by how many places you have been that I have also passed through while riding other ACA routes. On the Northern Tier in 2021 I passed through Whitefish and Eureka, MT. On the Transam in 2015 I went through Rawlins and Colter Bay, WY, and Kremmling, Frisco, Breckinridge, and Hartsel, CO. And on the Western Express in 2017 I went through Tomichi Creek trading post. Not being a mountain biker, I've never had an interest in riding the Great Divide route; but your adventure has rekindled lots of memories and made me think that maybe - just maybe - I'll keep it in mind as a long-shot possibility for some day. Best of luck with the remainder of the tour, I'll be following along.

Thanks Kelly, we plan to have a breakfast in Del Norte so we’ll head there.

You are correct about cheap land in the San Luis Valley area, somewhat north of Del Norte, where you are headed. I have a friend who bought 5 (?) acres there for $5,000. She said if she ever hits rock bottom, at least she has some land that is hers. This was easily 20 years ago. I keep asking periodically, and she's still holding onto it.

BTW, if you hit Del Norte in the morning, breakfast at Boogie's Diner is a must do. An omelet there will get you up the pass. Lunch or dinner are regular fair, but nothing beats breakfast at Boogie's!

WOW such views! It would be great to read about the Australian couple and their two year trip.
The Fall colors must be beautiful.

I have visions of your bikes being drawn toward the mine’s magnetism.

I got a bit more context. I had assumed it was related the Tour Divide, but there are some other much bigger, shorter races in the area. It sounds like the race organizers have the opportunity to sort it out.

If he is a backpacker, he might have reason for his thoughts... Have you ever seen a gravel bike race with the competitive guys skidding down, ripping apart the turf?

I blame the photographer.
