No, no! I went back and read over what I wrote. I went back and read over your special day riding to Marvao. I was vindicated in my opinion of the cobblestones by seeing your photo and mentioning that Rachael walked all the way down that tough section.
I wanted to report what I felt during the day, and I felt like I reported in reflection the tough cobblestone section was my bugaboo.
Visiting during a heatwave is not quite the same as pleasant fall weather. It has cooled off some now and we are headed out to explore. Even Jacinto has to say that this is a unique place. We never would have known about it if you hadn't said something! Please don't quit sharing your favorite spots.
I’m so sorry I even mentioned this place, Kelly. That looks horrible.
1 year agoThe driveway down into our lodging tonight has to be at least 25%. I've already planned to walk back up to the main road. Probably I couldn't ride that anyway, forget doing it on cold legs!
It does make for a good photo - of someone else riding it!
Just be careful to not brush past them! Scratches from the hidden bougainvillea thorns are nasty! I learned the hard way upon my first "contact" with them.

That story is hard to beat. Hopefully they turned the emergency can over on themselves. I can see some justice in that!
1 year agoThe cobblestone driveway to our lodging tonight is about that steep. I've already said I'm walking to the top. I don't think I could ride something that steep anyway, but much less on cold legs.
1 year agoIn '78 we went to one in Barcelona... Left after the first bull, highly disappointed! Got to the car and it had been vandalized! Broke a wind wing window, rifled through the glove box, taking a portable wind up alarm and 20 Deutschmarks (About $5) and in the back seat, turning over the "emergency can" that the girls, 4 and 6 (fortunately?) had used onto the floor, which very fortunately had impermeable rubber mats... They must have left immediately thereafter because nothing else was touched. All our camping stuff was fine. We kinda had to laugh at that, but the repair of the window was really expensive!
Ah, the memories!
There’s a clear sky. I thought the rain in Spain fell mainly on the plains.
1 year agoA 25% hill….that’s scary just thinking about it.
1 year agoSelfie!
1 year agoWell, maybe you’ll be luckier when you cross back into Spain. You can cross the road and take another Portugal shot.
1 year agoNot so much a sun as a stylized scallop shell which is the symbol of the pilgrimmage routes to Santiago, we think.
1 year agoYou got some great photos!
1 year agoPortugal sure has a lot of cobblestones and there miserable to bike on.

Yes, this is definitely the same spot: https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/iberia2019/marvao-dd1/#18960_gxnlmwbgnekgcyi7yuagn9c4izb. It’s probably the worst stretch of road on our whole tour, and we were going downhill on unloaded bikes in late October. Even going downhill, Rachael walked most of it. I can’t imagine going the other direction on a 100 degree day.
