You’re leaving your bikes there? It’s starting to sound like you two are getting serious about this traveling thing. We’ll look forward to following along. I’m sure southern Portugal in the spring will be amazing.
3 years agoI’ll pipe in here to give a report from another country because I forgot to mention it in our report. We’re back home today after flying back from Rome yesterday. You have to have a negative test taken within three days before departure to board a plane to the US. We got rapid antigen tests at a lab in Viterbo on Friday, for 15 euros each. Very easy, once we found a facility to perform the test. We were there about a half hour and walked out with our results. And yes, the airlines asked to see them when we checked in, and refused boarding for someone who didn’t have one.
3 years agoCongratulations you made it! We will miss reading your journal and will anxiously await your next one.
3 years agoA great adventure for 10 weeks! I have a story about that Port which I can share when you get home. Continued safe travels to you both.
3 years agoGood morning. How did the covid testing process go? Would you mind doing a little rundown? I think this requirement might be cancelled by May but in case not, I am curious to know. Thanks.
3 years agoHa ha. We have almost the same picture in our journal. Enjoying your journal.

Not that long (and we started the day in Leiria), but definitely too long, difficult and stressful. We ended at Praia de Santa Cruz after stopping first at Obidos and biked in to Lisbon the next day. That day (https://www.cycleblaze.com/journals/lisbon1997/to-praia-de-santa-cruz/) and the next were two of the hardest days we’ve spent together. It took almost 20 years before she’d agree to go anywhere near Portugal again.
3 years agoA great trip and journal! Thanks for letting us follow along. Every journal I read seems to add to my list of future touring locations, and yours is no exception. We’re not strong riders like you but some of the areas you’ve been to look irresistible. It will be fun to figure out how to visit them at our lower speed.
3 years agoI love that cherry liquor in the dark chocolate cups. A wonderful flavour combination
3 years agoYou will have to go to Nazare again ! I am sure it is much different than when you were there.
Rachel didn’t cycle Nazare to Lisbon in one day with her gears not working ?? If she did she deserves a medal! I know you did longer distances on your trips when you were still working but that would be too long a day!
Thanks Kel, one day left !
3 years agoYes abs there are many in Lisbon too.
3 years agoWe are almost getting used to the lack of safety measures now 😊.
3 years agoYes another great castle town!

Yes, this would be nice to see alright. 25 years after the fact, we still look back on Lisbon as the most difficult city we’ve ever biked into.
