Hi Kelly,
I’m enjoying your journal about Tucson. I’m so jealous- all those blue skies! I’m also thankful that you are transferring your journals to this site. I was reading your Granny Panties tour on that other site then you disappeared.
It appears we belong to the same club-perhaps you also hit the “agree” button to Wayne Estes’ forum post? It’s so nice to find this site without the nasty diatribes.
Enjoy your remaining days in Tucson! We may meander down there in early 2021 to alleviate our vitamin D deficiency here in the Pacific Northwest.

I have been doing a great deal of thinking about this and have decided a good New Year’s resolution, one I might even be able to keep, is to work on my navigation skills. Of course having said that I am just home from following Keith all over town on the bikes. That is an adventure of its own, particularly when he forgets to signal.

Steve

I thought if you multiple times yesterday!

One cue from ridewithgps said to turn at the Pizza Hut. That is the only time in all of these years they’ve give. Such a cue. It was easy though!

Perhaps surprisingly, my sense of direction used to be quite poor also. When I was younger, I took comfort in living on the west coast by the nearness of the ocean and the natural features of the lane. Keep the ocean on the right, I would remind myself when biking south. Over time though I’ve gotten much better through constant practice by staring at maps and being the CN on our team. I’m sure something is innate here, but I think too it’s a matter of paying enough attention to position and surroundings. At some point it became unconscious, and I don’t have to think about it.

I really miss riding my weekly trip around the loop. Not enough time for me to do it at the moment.
Pardon me if I'm repeating myself, regarding directionaly challenged, I remember that in certain cultures there is no reference to left or right. Instead they use a version of N, S, E, W, based on the sun or landmarks.

Maybe instead of thinking of a left or right turn, think of a turn to the north, south, east, west. I tend to think that way myself from my many years of backpacking in the wilderness.

Congratulations! And thanks for the tip about eBird. I’ve never seen it before, but I see a few spots I’ll need to check out.

I feel so grateful you write about your issues with getting lost. I also wonder about my lack of route finding ability. I have nicknamed Keith the CN for Chief Navigator and I just cheerily follow him. Sometimes I do wonder too if that is part of my problem, that I have simply depended on him for years. Keith and I live on Vancouver Island and if we want to get off the island with bicycle or car we take a huge ferry with multiple car decks. The lengths I go when traveling alone to be 100% certain I can find the car when it is time to disembark would amuse you. My best trick is to actually turn around and check the direction I need to go when returning...right or left. I never want to be one of the people wandering around in increasing desperation as the ferry pulls into the dock! The fear is real 😂.

I like this! It isn’t every day that I get to like a photo of the team. Great to meet up with you finally.

Kelly,

sure one can tell that church building was Mormon because of the golden statue of Moroni, the Son of Mormon and to whom it is said that the “golden plates” were given. He adorns the very top of all Mormon buildings.

Kelly, yes, I have an image finder... It is called plug in a description of a building and a location into google image search and see if anything matches. Sometimes it does, and if so, then I can post it. If it doesn't match, try a different description and so on.

Well I thought I read every interesting blog in the world! But I was wrong. Today he exceeded my expectations by a quantum leap. Congrats on a first time description of a man who really had balls!
