It pays to dress for meetings with important dignitaries named Roosevelt.

2 years agoHoooo boy, you really opened up a can of worms here. I had to go to Google to get to the bottom of this one. Turns out, there are several bars in Washington that make the same claim, but The Brick does seem to be the most likely. Digging a little deeper, I learned that Kuk's is almost certainly the oldest continuous and LICENSED tavern in the state.
2 years agoLike any great work of art, the meaning of this one is open to individual interpretation. Some art experts have said the calmness of the lake is a metaphor for the lack of activity going on in my brain. Others claim the pine trees are a reflection of all the hidden truths of mankind.
2 years agoThe Brick in Roslyn, Washington (of Northern Exposure fame) also claims to be the oldest continuously operating bar in Washington. How do we get to the bottom of this controversy?

2 years agoThank you, Wayne. I'm sorry that I accidentally advanced this journal to the recent updates page. I'm sure that's why I got your comment. But, yes, you're exactly right. The cigarette machine was at the Indian casino near the Grand Coulee Dam.

Thanks for adding maps. I prefer journals with maps. In general, I have an easy time following your map-less journals because you do a good job of explaining where you went in the text.
Hi Led, and nice to see you here. I might be able to tour beyond the age of 91, but in order to do that I'll have to LIVE that long. We'll see how that goes.
3 years agoI reckon you'll go past 91 cycle touring years Greg, no worries (as we say here). Don't go outside right now, don't want you turning into a popsicle.
3 years agoThat’s funny. Coincidentally, I just came across a photo of the Palouse blanketed in snow this morning. Ethereal.
