Window ledges were made for cycling shoes!
2 years agoHey Patrick and Susanna,
This is looking like a great tour, one I'm sure we'll follow one day. It's great to see you back on the road, enjoying life and exploring the Dolomites....a place we've wanted to go for years. Love those big beer pictures.
Cheers, Dave and Anne
Isn’t it a wonderful area! Great photos.
2 years agoHey Rachel. It was kind of comical. The guy told us to come back the next day. So we did. And, guess what? The bike shop was closed. Our bums are angry! We still haven't managed to find any!
2 years agoI love the story about trying to find chamois cream! I hope you find some. I couldn’t get by with out it and alway bring plenty with me. Have a great trip.
2 years agoHi Kathleen. Indeed coffee is a must. We are really enjoying the comfort this tour. Maybe we should get one of those machines for home...Looking forward to reading your next tour. Thanks for writing.
2 years agoIt is the coffee machines that dispense cappuccino on demand that won my heart. So much so Keith gave me one for our kitchen for my birthday a few years ago. We are really enjoying following along! I am feeling very envious, but all going well we will be heading out September 4. Keep enjoying those duvets and breakfasts. And the scenery. Oh the scenery. You are in magical bike touring land.
2 years agoWell said, Steve. I think we're converts. By the way. I'm really enjoying your writing and journal. When do you finish your tour? It's a long one. How does Dodie feel after he mishap in Mexico?
2 years agoWe were forced to stop camping when Dodie's knees became too painful for crawling into and out of tents. We have really enjoyed the luxury and pleasure of sleeping in a room with a bed since then. Throw in breakfast included and it reaĺly cannot be beat. To us it is well worth the extra cost, and when all is said and done it is not really all that much more expensive.
2 years agoThanks for the advice Suzanne. We'll definitely assess the situation the closer we get to Lake Garda.
2 years agoLooks like the beginning of a great ride!
I noticed at the end of your tour you plan to cycle from Riva to Limone on Lake Garda. We drove that stretch in April and saw many cyclists on the road, but it was a very tight squeeze with all the traffic. It's a road I wouldn't want to cycle, even in my younger and braver years. It was the Saturday before Easter so maybe there was more traffic than usual, but I think in the summer months it might be pretty busy, too. Just a heads up, you probably have chosen the route for good reasons.
Well. You both have kept the adventure alive for many of us. You guys are pretty inspiring. So, thanks to you both as well.

2 years agoGlad to see you made it. I look forward to reading your journal. Have a great time!

Hey Dave, thanks for writing. It sure is great to be back on tour. You have to come to this area. The Dolomites are really otherworldly and almost surreal. So different looking from our Coast mountains. We really enjoyed following along on your spoke and hub tour this spring. Cheers to big beers.
