Thank you so much for your comment. It might be the first time anybody has ever stated (in public) that I was emulatable.
1 year agoI totally enjoyed your blog/journal/diary/memoir/epistle - whatever it is. Your commitment to fun on the bike shines through and is something I strive to emulate. Good job!!
1 year agoThanks, Keith. Like you, I discovered you need wifi or a strong 5G signal, which, really, remote campgrounds are not designed for. I really like writing in a notebook in the great outdoors.
Also, I saw your reference to me on your own mini-tour. I meant to comment on that, but I forgot. I've been very distracted lately.
Oh yeah, this: thanks for this journal. I foresee similar forays in my future.
1 year agoThanks, George, but there may be some excuses not to ride. Like the ice storm Minnesota is facing for the next few days. It's even sending shivers through the utility companies and the snow plowing crews of the Minnesota Department of Transportation. It could be a pretty exciting week. I'll play it by ear as to whether I should ride.
1 year agoIn order for the phone/Bluetooth keyboard to work, you need a connection to the interweb thingy. I don't know about the campgrounds in Minnesota and Wisconsin, but US Forest Service campgrounds out west seldom had what I needed to enable me to post same-day journal updates. I hand-wrote them with my old-fashioned ball point pen in my trusty backup notebook and transcribed them when I could reconnect to the interweb again.
1 year agoYup, from what I've seen, they all seem to have their beer (or brandy or whiskey) to ease the pain of sitting over a hole in the ice for hour after hour.
1 year agoYikes! I whined and complained about having a few days of freezing weather on my recent fall tour, but it was nothing compared to you riding in the snow. Back in my working days I did commute in temperatures that were slightly sub-freezing, but that was only for 35 - 45 minutes of exposure. Thanks for showing us that there's really no excuse not to ride.
1 year agoI guess ice fishing is a good sport if you like to drink your beer while actually doing your sport rather than waiting until after. Maybe that alleviates the boredom factor.
1 year agoWell said, Keith.
1 year agoActually, I grew up in Iowa, but that's close enough, I guess.
1 year agoThat's pretty true, Rich. You could even throw the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in there too.
1 year agoIt looks inviting to me. I've always wanted to eat in a tiny plastic igloo.
1 year agoThat's exactly what I was thinking when I took this photo. Fargo is one of my favorite movies of all time.
