What a miserable day. I’m glad you had the option to turn back!
3 months agoThis road looks a lot like what we’ve been seeing in England now that we are in the flat country.
3 months agoI think you’re cool!
3 months agoI loved that movie!
3 months agoIt’s great you are so adaptable! Here’s hoping the weather ends up being better than predicted. We’ve had a lot of days in Great Britain where the weather has been dicey but between staying places multiple days and catching trains a few times we’ve only gotten really wet walking back from dinner.

3 months agoI, for one, really enjoyed your comments, good and bad ( according to you)..But, I absolutely LOVED the mural of “field of dreams” in Dyersville being the avid baseball fan that I am.
3 months agoIt's nice to know you are also human and can also admit that quitting is a better choice than forcing yourself to continue just because. I've been there and done that also! No regrets.
Did you swing back by the Holiday Inn for your tools? Maybe the multi tool was worth back tracking?
It sounds like we have the same love/hate relationship with our motorized wheels. I thought my minivan days were long over. Wrong! I love the practicality of the van. That's all I love. There's no pride in ownership, just appreciation for what the van can haul. It does that very well.
3 months agoNot wasted on me either. I enjoy your ramblings and any of your attempts at journaling are ALWAYS fun! I don’t think this one was a failure at all — reliving some of you childhood years in your old neighborhood had to be quite a blast from the past; and those photos of the town were indeed very interesting. So chin up buckaroo, and on to the next adventure — which I hope is not too far in the distance.
3 months agoThanks for quitting. Not that I was tired of your journal, but I have quit or had to quit so many tours, I appreciate that I am in good company. I'd hate it if everyone here were undaunted in the face of adversity. And I did enjoy the pages so far.
3 months agoThat was the top of my road racing days, when I could usually find 2 or 3 days a week to get back into shape for a few weeks before a race. The guy I ran most races with was about 6 inches shorter and about 50 pounds heavier and he ran almost every day. He actually beat me in a Marathon in the Quad Cities the year prior. Too few miles of training nailed me at about mile 20 when I hit the wall and told him to go for it.
Wishing my old knees would let me run now that I have plenty of time to train, but even cycling is getting tough.
Not wasted on me... Got me back to some good memories.
But then again, if yer really adaptable, ya don't need no stinkin' tire irons. If need be a good ol' steel spoon works, or even a nail, scary as that might be.
Thanks for the fun!
That's exactly what I thought.

I’m always amazed by the diversity of your experiences. What a great accomplishment!
