My dad listened to this in the garage on public radio all the time when I was growing up. I was too young to like it/appreciate it. Just sounded like old men talking with sound effects to me. I think my dad even had a Lake Wobegon tshirt at one point.
2 months agoYeah, squirrel on a skateboard is really cool. Pretty neat to see street art where it seems like it would be hard to maintain with the sorts of winters that you have.
2 months agoAnother nice day and a good way to end the day - in a tent! Those cows obviously don't get handfed or supplemental feed since they didn't start following you, thinking you were bringing hay. Glad you made it up that big hill, too, I was worried for you.
2 months agoSo nice for winter - no slipping on ice or the ball getting wet from a puddle and freezing your hands. No shovelling out the free throw line to be able to practice.
2 months agoAnd so much nicer when it is not raining - yay!!
2 months agoLook at that stonework above the door - awesome. My maternal grandfather was in the CCC and my aunt has some of his journals. I think it'd be cool to go and check out some of the places he worked.
2 months agoIf in America, yes, I would have flicked it.
In Oz, no way - I would have escorted it away with a stick. None of the fuzzy wuzzy caterpillars here are kind - they are all poisonous and painful if touched.
It doesn't apply to you - you have hands and your bike has handlebars, so go right ahead.
2 months agoI tend not to camp in the red light districts... but you know, what happens on tour stays on tour, I guess.
2 months agoLooks like this was a really nice day and a good tent site. Such a contrast to the rain of the other half of the tour.
2 months agoHave you seen the meme about the 'cobra chicken'? Google Canada Goose Cobra Chicken.
2 months agoYeah, I think in recent years, research has shown there are better ways to get protein and calcium than milk and that it's probably not the greatest thing for you. Lots of conflict of interest in USDA nutritional guidelines and the dairy industry. I did love choc milk on tour, but now I realise it was doing bad things to me my whole life - not so much digestive issues, but once I stopped drinking milk and eating wheat, my asthma, hayfever and joint pain all went away. It's not the lactose that inflames me but the casein. People never believe it until they give it up for a couple months and are amazed at all the issues that go away. I was the same!!
2 months agoI hope you did not let G-2 go for a swim here....
2 months agoA mile would have been a lot of laps of that parking lot! I liked that Presidential Award for Physical Fitness - I scored well, except for the chin-ups. They were always my undoing!

Lakes and cattail sections, and not all view-blockers, this looks like a good rail trail for you.
