Wow Kelley! An overnight trip, 70 miles each way? That's amazing. You'll definitely be in shape for the big trip through the mountain states.
Good decision on delaying your ride for a day, and good luck with outrunning the snow.
Yes, I'm as sure as I've ever been about anything. Unless, that is, the lettering is a ruse.
2 years agoHey Cheesy Rider, your memory is apparently intact, as my name IS Lia, and it would be highly unusual to make a guess that it would be spelled 'l-i-a' versus the four-letter way. Regarding the journal entries, if humorous, informative, well-written, and overall entertaining reading is considered "goofy", then yes, they are. I'm continuing to be inspired! π΄ββοΈ
2 years agoI was going to say that it was probably the old armory too. It does have that look. That, or a science building.
2 years agoAre you sure itβs a science building?
2 years agoWe were supposed to start our ride last year in Prairie Du Chien, leaving our van at a friend's house. Jacinto couldn't get off work in time, so we had to start in Milwaukee. Your photos today are very inviting. If we ever make it over there again, we'll need to ride this day.
2 years agoSpeaking of the weather. I had an overnight trip to Aspen planned, leaving Wednesday, coming back Thursday. 70 miles each direction - my last hurrah before our trip starts.
But, strong headwinds were forecasted for the return on Thursday. 70 miles of 25 mph wind doesn't sound fun at all. Jacinto suggested delaying my departure by one day - that would give me a 25 mph tailwind TO Aspen. That sounds like a plan!
I did that.
Without looking at the weather. Guess what the forecast is for Friday? Snow! I traded wind for snow? Now I'm the one bringing the heavy tights along. If the forecasts (I've check several) are correct, if I leave town early, I should beat the snow. As I go lower, there isn't even rain in the forecast. It might be more fun than I signed up for!
Yeah, it's a whole 'nother world out here. I'm so glad I decided to continue eastward.
2 years agoI like Bill Murray, but I think Harold Ramis went on to do some of the coolest stuff.
I saw the Bicycle Doctor when I rode through Dousman. It's amazing to see such a nice bike shop in such a small town.
"...glacial swamps, glacial drumlins and glacial moraines...."
Toto, I don't think we're in the Driftless Area any more.
Yeah, it really was a fine day. I'm glad the tour of Madison brought back some memories.

Sounds like it'll be a great end of the trip. Be sure to visit the Bicycle Doctor in Dousman. https://www.bikedr.com
Also, have a great time in Milwaukee!
This post helps bring back memories of our tour around the city and appreciation of the in and out of the capital building as well as U of Wisconsin. Great time.
2 years agoWHAT an eventful day! Raining diamonds onto your tent, getting a replacement and an extra end cap for free (now you will never lose one), finding Epic is not a resort it looks to be, those interesting trolls, a bird to enter into the monthly challenge, another fan for your blogging, a nice ride through and around Madison and the eclipse!! Holy Molely Greg!! How are you ever going to outdo this day?
Years ago we did some cycling in and around Madison when visiting a family member. I remember enjoying that and that lake a lot!
There is NO end to your areas of expertise. Thank you for such an awe inspiring review of the Wollersheim. Now I feel validated for using a wind glass similar to yours ;β-).
