Re proliferation of masks - given the way that Omicron is going through the world I am not surprised.
2 years agoYou gots bike path itis; the inability to get bord riding a city trail daily! I’d go bonkers…. Sorry they wouldn’t let u into the park, but the ride, the view upbto it was just as good if not better. Pretty steep clmbing Kelly; you go, girl!!!

Thanks for spotting a new one! We’ll have to bike over and check it out.
2 years agoThat’s a real shame that you couldn’t get into the park. I forgot to mention btw that there are a few short but really steep spots on the loop, just so you’re mentally prepared when you go back, as you should. If you can talk Jacinto into it you might drive over and start at the park and then make a loop down to Colossal Caves and back. Much more interesting than the streets.
And Jacinto’s right - the Catalina Hills have some great cycling. I was up there myself today.
Back in the day I had the ERRC panniers, both sizes. The larger size was called LLOONNGG. All have since been sold as have my Easy Racers bikes. Kind of sad.
2 years agoI'm always struck by how purple those staghorn chollas are!

You are correct, however, Jacinto may know it by one of its other common names.

A friend and I rode from Boulder, Utah to Bullfrog Marina (via the Burr Trail, an absolutely amazing ride) last May and planned to take the ferry the next day. They cancelled the ferry due to low water the day we got there, but they also have a water taxi, and the price wasn't ridiculous. So we were able to get across and continue on to Mexican Hat. The main problem was that the earliest we could take the water taxi was 9 a.m. The other option we'd thought about was hanging around the docks and hitching a ride; I don't know how well that would have worked.
We also stayed in one of the trailers at Hite Marina about 15 years ago. My only piece of advice is that the lake was too low for boating there that year, but the concessionaire was contractually obliged to keep the store open. They weren't obliged to keep much on the shelves, though, so the selection of food was very limited (a few dusty cans, that's about it).
If you cross at Bullfrog or Hite, where are you going to ride to? Either Mexican Hat or Blanding is a long tough ride. Are there cabins at Natural Bridges?
Might be wolfberry.

Hmmmm... I wonder if this is a new "thing", that I've missed hearing about? I've seen the same sort of decoration this year at a few locations here in Maryland.
