Hi Catherine
Since you are now touring instead of commuting, it would be a good idea to check chain wear periodically. There's a handy tool to check chain "stretch" (really chain wear) that's easy to use. Replacing the chain before it's truly worn out means you won't have to replace the cassette and chainrings so often. Here's a link to more info: https://www.bikeradar.com/features/how-to-know-when-its-time-to-replace-your-bicycle-chain/

Now I am found out: I pretend to understand my bike but in reality I just google bits and do what YouTube tells me! Thank you for the elucidation 😊

Hi Catherine
The rotor is the round disc that the brake pads press against to slow you down. Hence the term disc brakes!

Thanks Mike! I feel for you: we have three children, all currently locked down in either Sydney or Melbourne, and regularly spend time just listening to them vent their frustrations on the phone: at least the high-risk one is fully vaccinated.
We hope that Qld continues to improve and the SA border is open by the time we get there, otherwise it may be a long road trip through the NT and into SA that way.

Little else that you could do Catherine. NSW is in more muck than a Werribee duck atm and Melbourne has had lockdown extended to to September 2. Mind you the rest of the state is still open if you manage to get through SA.
I look forward to your adventures in the QLD outback but I did see somewhere that Birdsville races have been cancelled again this year.
Meanwhile I am stuck with my 15km loop in my 5km radius from home.

Cheers

Mike

So sorry you had to work so hard this day. But you showed who was boss, and it wasn’t the trail.

Enjoying your journal and your way with words.

Haha yes I got tired of scrolling to the bottom on longer journals so mine is in reverse order.

It's a shame Flo and her pumpkin scones are not around Kingaroy anymore, would have loved some of them. I'm Randal Dutchy from the other site, I kept seeing updates to your journal but nothing new was there, now I realise the new posts are from the top, ha ha, that tricked me. Stay safe on those roads

Surprisingly we fitted everything in amongst the other panniers - we must be getting more efficient with packing. I think the theft was purely opportunistic hence why the very basic bike lock kept the bike safe. Roger reports that the bike was somewhat uneven and wobbly to ride: we'll try to get another pannier next time we're in a town big enough to have a bike shop.
All good fun! And now we're paranoid about leaving anything unattended!
