I do wonder if the fork taking the impact and breaking away might have saved him from injury. We're counting our blessings.
7 months agoI couldn't believe it either. Can't really fault the fancy bike this time. I don't think my fork would have survived a direct hit like that. It's awesome that he can get the replacement in a few days.
7 months agoThanks Nancy. The scene is much improved since we reached Miami Beach two days ago.
7 months agoThanks Rich. Barry doesn't waste brain cells on worry and regret, he just keeps going. It's endearing.
7 months agoThanks Keith. There's always a way.
7 months agoThis was 20 miles of boredom. Matters definitely improved after Florida City, thank goodness.
7 months agoIt's a Panasonic Lumix. How do you deal with the lens not retracting? So frustrating.
7 months agoThat sounds like a good idea. The pole for my flag breaks down in three parts with shock cords like a tent pole, and it's easy to tie to the frame with a velcro strap. I ordered the flag from the Hostel Shoppe in Steven's Point WI.
7 months agoI have heard different things about the H&B sites. The ACA references a no-turn-away policy, but two rangers said if someone else gets to the first-come-first-served sites before you, you're out of luck. Good thing we rode short miles in the Keys and could get to the parks early.
7 months agoIt definitely takes a certain mindset to get into it. The weather has improved, that helps.
7 months agoBetter to happen to the bike rather than the rider. Hope Barry is OK.
7 months agoWe just passed another one near Jupiter, added a closer view for you below.
7 months agoI can’t believe it. A second broken fork in the same year? It’s great news that Barry came through it OK, but he must be really frustrated.
7 months agoHoly moly!

Same camera, I think. Is it still stuck open? I assume you mean the lens itself, not the cover. The camera’s prone to that if it gets grit or sand into it.
