Looks like it might be yellow cosmos. Great photo!

Jeff, Jeff, Jeff -

So much to say, so little time to say it.
But mercy chile! I do worry about you.
Reading all them guest book pages.

And what about grits?
(With a Diet Pepsi, of course.)
Don't know how you survive smoky bars.
It would kill me after a long day riding.

Speaking of which -
I'm 66 and don't need no electric assist.
Lordy, lordy, what's this world comin' to?

Safe riding - Juan

This might be the Easter Island of Missouri.

I generally have the same aversion to the word "poop" as you do. Imagine my shock when I used the word myself last week. I was walking my dog around the pond near my home when I saw a day-care mom wheeling a big wagon containing six pre-school aged kids. One of them put me on the spot when he asked, "what's in that bag?" I'm sure he was expecting me to pull out some treats. There are many euphemisms for dog excrement, but the only one that seemed appropriate at the time was "poop."

Besides that little tidbit, I just wanted to say I have dreamed about doing a no-plans, no-destinations tour for a few years now. Unlike you, I haven't quite been able to pull the trigger.

Lebanon sounds like every small town in Vermont. Change is never good, and unless your family has lived there for two generations, you’ll never be a local. We have the same literal-ness of road naming too. Pretty much every town has a West Street, a Hill Rd or Cemetery Rd. I figure practical roads built and named by practical people.

Really enjoying (and respect) the spontaneity of planning on this trip.

Jeff,
You seem to be getting along OK with your route-as-you-go plan, finding empty rural roads and bike trails. It's fun seeing where you end up each night, and how you got there.
Great pictures, as usual, and write-ups that have us right there with you.
Stay safe, especially in this upcoming heat.

That’s me!! How fun to see now that I’m more than a thousand miles from Kentucky. The guys on the left side of the book don't live too far from me now- I plan to meet up with them sometime. And the guy beneath my entry rode with my friend and I that day.

Jeff,
I'm sure, lacking options, this is something I would have tried to ride on. Now, thanks to your report, I see it's not a good idea!

Thanks!

...But let's see how I handle my old nemesis The Katy Trail.

That surface is soul-destroying, haha

Have a look at the Trail of Tears map if you want route options that include sobering, heartbreaking stories and opportunities for reflection while you ride.

78 hilly miles with little sleep ain't too bad.
Especially for an old guy.

If I’m able to access my younger-self brain, I’m assuming they’re calling the person stopped at the stop sign a coward for stopping.
Could’ve been more creative. Or added some clarifying graffiti above.

I know it’s supposed to read like “this is an international harvester farm” but
THIS IS AN FARM *thick country accent*
