Spot on! And what a great name for such a colorful plant.
3 years agoYour reference to your knees and I had just finished reading this article in one of our newspapers this morning. I've been grizzling about the onset of aching knees and back and this article confirms that we need to suck it up and keep exercising. You're a role model for that!!

You captured some amazing colors! And good news from the dermatologist. That must be a huge load off your mind.
3 years agoI always find it interesting how they turn bright yellow for a few days, then almost overnight drop them all.

Definitely a healthy habit to regularly purge worries, especially this year!!
Also, love all the colorful photos! When we were out walking a couple days ago I commented to Ron that we were lucky to see so many colors before the wind whisked them away.
First of all it’s a long enough ride to forget about any worries which has been especially important right now but mostly I found that if I bike that far I can eat whatever I want. However, I realize some day I’ll have to change the number.
3 years agoA question for Rachel, what is the significance of preferring 42 miles for your day rides?

When the news is so good that there is spontaneous dancing in the streets it is indeed historic. Here at our house Andrea went to the front porch and started whistling, you know, that kind of loud, high-pitched whistling that few can do. I grabbed our enormous and heavy brass gong and beat it on the front porch until I couldn't hold it any longer. There were lots of whistles, shouts of joy and clapping in our neighborhood. The nearby church even rang its bell!! Now that's historic! We are thrilled to have Biden AND Harris to lead us out of this mess.
3 years agoHi, Fern. I agree - apartments really are nice, particularly for multi-night stays. We primarily use Booking.com. They have quite a few apartment listings in Europe, much more so than in the US - at least in the southern countries we’ve been traveling in lately.
Thanks for following along! Nice to know you’re out there.
Since I gave up tenting I now stay in hotels when touring in Europe. I like the idea of staying in small local apartments such as you do. Which apps / web sites are you using to find these places?
Great journals BTW!
It feels like VE Day. Yesterday must have been a banner day for the champagne distributors. I imagine the sound of a million corks popping around the world.
3 years agoGreat relief here, too! Yoohoo! Happy for you and for the rest of the world. What a mess Trump made of EU-US relations. Everyone is looking forward to restored communication with the US.
3 years agoIt was pretty quiet walking back to the apartment, but I know there was a lot of commotion downtown. It was definitely upbeat here at the coffee shop though. I think I was the first to see the news here. I held my iPad up to show the headline to the counter staff, and a big cheer went up. A minute later a woman walked in the store, all grins, pumping both arms in the air.
And you’re right about the victory speeches last night. So cathartic.
Looks like umbrella magnolia, which would be Magnolia tripetala.
