I like the “Spay” State Farm bill, considering the four page article I read in today’s San Francisco Chronicle of their tactics for those who trusted them in fire zones. Beware!
1 week agoBetter to laugh. Do you remember Norman Cousins, editor of the new Republic? He was a renowned advocate for world peace but also an early advocate for participating in your own medical care. His book Anatomy of an Illness documents his attempt to cure himself with laughter.
1 week agoLists have become even more important these days since the memory is not the steel trap it once was.
1 week agoIt’s thanks to you, for introducing me to Frog and Toad and the wonderful world of lists. Make a list - ✔️!

1 week agoYes! All my days are JUST LIKE that. How did you ever guess?
1 week agoUgh. Darn Prednisone brain cramp ! You’ll get it done..👍
2 weeks agoWell, actually there is a little more than that with the pre-op requirement. While driving down to Salem it suddenly nagged at me that I hadn’t rechecked the appointment instructions to see if I’d forgotten anything. I could have pulled off and looked up the instructions, but it was too late by then anyway. The first thing they asked when I showed up was whether I’d remembered to abstain from calcium for the last 24 hours. Well, there was the healthy dash of milk in my coffee this AM, and the milk for my cereal. That’s it though, except for the twice-daily calcium/Vitamin D supplement I’m religiously taking to protect myself from osteoporosis.
I blame it on the prednisone and its effect on my short-term memory, but there’s probably something here too about the fact that I’ve never been half as smart as I thought I was.
We
Yup. Not lost! Neither the tan one, but this one gets to go to Europe again. Elizabeth’s got custody of the other one until we get back.
2 weeks agoBone density scan..how could you “flunk”? Unless there is more to it, I have had 3 over my lifetime and none required any “pre-op”.. I do, indeed have severe osteoporosis and will be taking additional calcium supplements, but don’t know which yet until I see the rheumatologist on the 21st. Glad I was a big milk drinker as a kid..it paid off..this new defeat is due to heredity. Thanks, Mom. 🫣

2 weeks agoHmmm, I took a COBOL course back in college, and then the following semester was a student intern for the course. Fortunately, it was a skill that I never had to use in the real world. It was pretty terrible.
2 weeks agoWhat a great map! I opened it up expecting to see it tagged to a lot of bakeries and coffeehouses but this is much better. I had no idea that the pronunciation of scone is contextual. It’s like Louth, which I’d forgotten the pronunciation of until rereading the blog of our last visit there. Forsooth!
