I had hopes of running well enough for a scholarship, but went to Jr college and never improved much... 3 guys on the team better, so I was always "also ran..." Felt like "Mediocre Fred" but had no idea just how good a runner I actually was, comparing myself to Lindgren and the like.

You were a miler too! 4:45 was a pretty decent time back then too, probably good enough to place in most of our meets. I really loved coming across this photo, which brought back a flood of memories.

Nice shot! I do not have any photos like that... I was only able to scrape out 4:45 before I graduated... always listed as "also ran" in the papers. If I had been in that photo, based on times, it would place me just on the edge of the photo rounding the final turn.

It’s a Powershot SX70. I wouldn’t be surprised if it worked really well for you. Its only negative as far as I’m concerned is the size and bulkiness that don’t work as well biking. Other than that, I like it better each time I’m out with it.

I can’t tell you how pleased I am by this surprising development. I’m really ready to get more walking into my life again, and to take some hikes with Rachael again. I’ve missed that.

It really was great lighting for this shot. I like it tracing the line of the foothills below too. Lucky to have been up there at the right time.

Happy to hear that you're able to walk with increasing stamina and strength. Good lubrication for those joints!

Great light showing the features of the mountain.

Thanks for the camera/phone review. I know you've mentioned it in your journal, but what's the model of your Canon camera?

I am very excited about that, Karen. I really hope to fit more hiking and walking in general in next year - alone when birding, and on some less challenging hikes that Rachael will slow down for me on. It really does seem to help my badly arthritic left knee to be strengthening its support system.

Practicality aside - it was excellent fodder for the blog!

Steve was getting cramps on a more than occasional basis (he doesn't drink enough water) so I have him on a magnesium tablet a day. Seems to be working so far but only time will tell. Might be a thought for you, but best to check with the medicos to be sure it is ok with your other meds.

Isn’t it though? I was struck by that myself. It’s probably the best shot of us together in over 76 years, ever since the family favorite of us facing each other and grinning, surrounded by bubble bath in the family tub.
