In Oregon, no less. All jays are named “Louie” by my older daughter because that’s what Grandpa P called the “peanut thief” in his yard.
Thanks for the photo reminder, Scott.

Impressive! Three degrees of separation from greatness. Better than a Kevin Bacon.

Thank you Annette. I’m pleased that you find it worth your time, but for me it’s been therapeutic - both to write and remember and to hear from those of you who have reached out in one way or another. It feels like I’m part of a real community here. And of course you should feel welcome here even if you’re beyond biking now. I certainly intended to when I feared I’d never bike back again, and when I’ve spent seven weeks now with still only nine miles to show for myself.

Yup, that’s where Carol Jo and I first heard of him. Besides Classical Gas and his instrumentals though, he was a comic lyricist, composing a series of whimsical ‘Them’ riffs. I think there’s a whole book of them. Here’s one of his best known, Them Toad Suckers:

How about Them Toad Suckers,
Ain't they clods?
Sittin' there suckin'
Them green toady-frogs.

Suckin' them hop-toads,
Suckin' them chunkers,
Suckin' them leapy-types,
Suckin' them plunkers.

Look at Them Toad Suckers,
Ain't they snappy?
Suckin' them bog-frogs
Sure makes 'em happy.

Them huggermugger Toad Suckers,
Way down south,
Stickin' them sucky-toads
In they mouth.

How to be a Toad Sucker?
No way to duck it.
Gittchyseff a toad,
Rare back and suck it!

Your journals make excellent reading. Maybe you should be published? I'm never quite sure how much I should post on CB, as it's been quite a few years since I've cycled anywhere. Hope everything goes swimmingly for you and Rachael as you look forward to your time in Tucson!

One of my distant cousins said she went out on a date with Mason Williams in Kansas City back in the late 1960's. She was kind of a hippy/groupie type, so I wonder if "date" meant what I thought it meant back then.

The Feeshko and I stayed in a hotel in downtown Rochester, MN a few years ago. The next morning, we saw a similar sight of crows in the trees. We were parked underneath those trees. Need I describe what our car looked like when we got to it?

Scott, I'm here to the rescue. I will go back and "like" a few of them in your place.
