I’m glad it worked for her. It really is a nice ride, one I’d do more often if it weren’t so far from Tucson.
9 months agoI sent this route to Jan, who lives in Oro Valley and is looking for climbing in training for a BAC Spain tour in May. She said this ride fit the bill. It's only a half hour from their house, and has climbing without hill repeats, which is what they have been doing. She says to tell you thank you.
9 months agoIt was great to be back in the saddle and have good weather! It’s the only ride of done in Portland but I got several hikes in. I can’t believe we will are flying out on Thursday. Yipee!
10 months agoIt's great to see Rachel back in the saddle.

10 months agoLuckily Bruce is flexible and slim . . . and perhaps a little desperate to get home.
10 months agoAs always, it was a pleasure to follow along with you. Your journal entries are a comforting part of my daily routine. The text and photo proportions are just right!
10 months agoI enjoyed this one and am enjoying the new one so far. Looking forward to following along!
10 months agoThank you for another great journal. I love all the beauty you show us with your photos of landscapes and birds, videos, etc.
And thank you so much for picking us up at the airport with all of our stuff. Fitting that your journal ends with describing the ending our our journey as well.
Thank you for welcoming us and delivering us home.
I can't wait to follow you both on your next adventure. You guys are amazing!
I've been in much worse conditions. I even had two blankets behind me as a back rest! Luxury, I tell you, luxury!
10 months agoAs thrilling every time as the first one - which I’ll never forget. It was about 30 years go, hiking with my dog on Diablo Mountain in the wilderness in SE Oregon. I heard this roar in the distance, looked around, and saw a white cloud of geese rising at the far end of Summer Lake, maybe ten miles away.
10 months agoThe snow geese video and pictures are fantastic! What a sight!
10 months agoIf you can view facebook, here is a link to a photo of skinny me my first ride not fully recovered.

Yeah. Got shingles end of May and finally got out on my bike without a shirt (not my norm) early Jul. Basically lost summer. At the suggestion of my doc. I waited 6 months before getting the vax in hopes of preventing another episode. Got a brother in law who has recurrent shingles despite having had both types of vaccine. He's learned the earliest symptoms and takes antivirals that limit both severity and length of episodes. He gets it about 4x per year.

I finally rode Jacinto's recommended ride out the newly repaved Speedway to Douglas Springs hiking area. Nine miles from the loop, smooth as butter. Tomorrow my plan is to turn left from Speedway onto Tanque Verde Loop, to Tanque Verde, and then to the end of the pavement on Redington Road. I had remembered you riding this. I didn't realize it was the same day we went to dinner! You've given it enough of a good recommendation here, I'm going to try the Speedway variation. Wish me luck. Tomorrow is Sunday, so there shouldn't be much traffic.
