That’s what we thought. We were excited last year when one was walking in Rillito wash, and have been hoping to see another one some day. Six though - wow!

2 years agoWow, look at those guys!! I especially like how the older one has coiffed his or her ridge hairs straight upwards.
2 years agoIt is, really. The photo doesn’t quite make clear it’s scale either - it’s 130 feet by 30, and large enough that it’s allegedly visible from the peak of one of the small nearby mountains.

2 years agoWe’ll be biking past this spot fairly often so I’ll see if I can get a more focused shot of it one of these days. I wonder if the sun ever hits that north-facing wall.
2 years agoI was pleased with this one too. The light and setting make it. This one and the Harris’s hawk were taken within a hundred yards of each other.
2 years agoWe’re down here for roughly six weeks, and will head north on January 24th. When will you be down again?
2 years agoThanks for doing the research. I’d been meaning to check for hawks with that white band at the end of the tail. I think you’re probably right. It must be an immature one.
